Mommy: “Who is Martin Luther King?”

Colton: “He let the black people go free.”

Mommy: “You may be thinking of Abraham Lincoln.’

Colton: “Oh yeah – Martin Luther King let the black people and white people play equal”

Mommy: “What do you mean by ‘play equal’?”

Colton: “Go to the same school and sit anywhere on the bus.”

Mommy: “What happened to Martin Luther King?”

Colton: “He was shot in Dallas on a boat.”

Mommy: “Hmm… you may be thinking of President Kennedy. He was shot in Dallas in a convertible – which is a car without a top.”

Colton: “Why did they shoot Martin Luther King?”

Mommy: “Why do you think?”

Colton: “Some people didn’t want black people to go to the same school.”

Mommy: “That’s part of it.”

Colton: “Had I been there, I would have gotten the bad guy with my light saber!”

Mommy: “Why do you think they are closing school tomorrow?’

Colton: “Because it’s Martin Luther King’s birthday!”

Mommy: “You and I have birthdays– but they don’t close the school for us.”

Colton: “Maybe we should do something important and then they will close the schools for us.”

I think Martin would be proud....
