Not-So-Perfect Parent: The Journey of 2007

What I would give for a crystal ball! I would love to take a peek into 2007 and see how the unknown elements of my life will be transformed into outcomes or more mystery.

I begin 2007 in the challenging position of beginning a new career. I went from being at the top of my profession to having to pay my dues. I recognize that what I am experiencing right now is the reason why most do not change careers. It is simply too hard to move from being a leader and vital member of the business structure to becoming an accessory in which no one really cares if you show up to work. The price of pursuing a dream can be too overwhelming and I respect anyone who chooses to remain in the safety of their comfort zone.

I often quote a book that has served as my guide along this journey. “The Dream Giver” by Bruce Wilkinson, is a parable about a little man named Ordinary who leaves the Land of Familiar to pursue his Big Dream. The path he takes mirrors the road I am on. The “WasteLand” is a series of unexpected trials that never seem to end. Delays, setbacks, and disappointments set in causing us to question our decision and consider the possibility of abandoning the dream. But Wilkinson writes these encouraging words,

“So refuse to buy into the lie that your WasteLand is too hard. It’s not too hard. It’s not too long. Your tests in the desert are the best answer to one of your deepest desires and prayers: ‘Please make me into the person I need to be to do the dream You have created me to do!’”

So, I enter into 2007 with a giddy like anticipation of what is to come. I remain optimistic that the path I am taking will lead to fulfilling outcomes. I hope I can continue with confidence knowing that the Dream I am pursuing is not my own, but rather one that has been created for me by the Dream Giver.
