Not-So-Perfect Parent: Shopping Trip

My sister and I went on our annual shopping trip with our father. Once a year, we drag my father to the shopping malls to purchase Christmas presents for our mother. Although my sister and I grunt and moan about this tradition, we secretly look forward to it every year.

Just for the sake of background, my sister and I are opposite in almost everyway. As children, she was into books while I was into Barbie. She was shy and introverted while I would perform “Fire cracker, fire cracker, boom boom boom!” in the aisles of the grocery store. She was the smart one, while I was – well- the annoying one. To this day, our differences are pronounced. In this case, when shopping with my father, I constantly encourage him to spend more money while my sister looks out for the sales.

Although my father says things like “She has more jewelry than the Queen of Sheba“ or “She has 400 sweaters, she couldn’t possibly need more”, the truth is that my father would give her the moon and the stars if she asked. He adores her and has made sure that through the years she never went without.

My parents have spent 42 Christmases together. When considering my many blessings this holiday season, the one that will top my list is the enduring love that is shared between my mom and dad.
