I hate it when my kids are sick. It is a helpless feeling for a parent. You want more than anything to take the pain away and would gladly trade places with your child to spare him from any discomfort. My two-year-old is typically a rowdy child. I am constantly scolding him for climbing on the furniture or climbing on his brother. He loves to perform. Every morning when he gets dressed, he struts around the room while I applaud. Sometimes I wish he would simply lie still so that I could peacefully read him a book. However, before I get past page two, he is hanging upside down from the bed and making monkey sounds. There are times when I wish I could tame his rambunctious spirit. However, when he is sick, lethargic, droopy and listless, I would give anything to reignite his rowdiness in order to have my Luke back. I remember as a child wanting my mother close when I was ill. To this day, I long for her cool hands on my forehead when I am sick. I am not alone. It continues for generations. Everyone wants their mother when they are sick. Who knew that I would one day grow-up and be able to handle throw-up and snotty noses, and provide the comfort for my own children. |
