Miss Arizona 2006

Main | Hi everyone! »

My new blog!

Hello everybody!

Welcome to my blog! I’m so excited for this opportunity to give you all a glimpse of my life as Miss Arizona 2006. It’s been a crazy few months, so I’ll try to fill you in on who I am and what’s happened so far.

Here’s a little background info…I’m a native Arizonan, and I was born and raised in Glendale. I graduated from Cactus High School in 2003, and I’m currently at ASU majoring in Journalism/Mass Communication. I began competing in the Miss Arizona program when I was 17 and in June, I won the title of Miss Arizona.

In the two months since I’ve had the title, my life has been a whirlwind of activity. I’ve been traveling all over the place promoting my personal platform, “Strength Over Silence: Rape Awareness and Recovery.” So far, I’ve been to Tucson, Sierra Vista, Winslow, Snowflake, Thatcher, all over the Valley, and even Nashville, Tennessee. I work with several great organizations, and I’m thrilled to now be partnered with 3TV and Silent Witness. I’m really looking forward to the rest of my year of service!

September is sure to be a great month…there are some exciting things coming up! From the 5th through the 11th, I’ll be in Los Angeles with the other 51 contestants who will compete with me for the title of Miss America. We’ll be doing promotional filming for the pageant, which will air on Country Music Television in January. I’m not sure what my schedule will be like in LA, but I’m so excited to meet all the contestants! Since we’ll be together in LA and then again in Las Vegas in January, I’m hoping we’ll be a tight-knit group by the time Miss America finals roll around on January 29th!

So now I’m busy packing and trying to figure out what to take to LA…I can’t believe I leave tomorrow! I’m sure I’ll take way too much, but better safe than sorry! I will definitely keep you updated on how things go next week and throughout the rest of the year. Thanks for coming along for the ride!

Keep up the good work! We're so proud of our Miss Arizona!!

To Hilary Griffith: I remember your dad telling me your rape experience while I was working with him (with a student teacher) at Cactus High one day. He was devestated for you, and I was just overwhelmed that a sweet, young lady as yourself had to go through something so traumatic. I read the newspaper recently and am so thrilled of you, so proud of you. You are a true inspiration to many, and you are helping others to see that what we say and do affects other people. Congratulations on moving on with your life and helping others in similar situations to do the same! I have read the paper to my daughters and they too are very happy for you and are impressed with your strength and accomplishments. Please give my regards to your father. He is a wonderful teacher! I hope he is enjoying retirement.

This is GREAT Hilary! I hope you get the opportunity (with your busy schedule) to keep us all posted while you are at Miss America! You are going to be AMAZING!
xoxo,
Holland

Hi Hilary,

You spoke last weekend at my church CCV. I just wanted to say thank you for being so brave to speak out about your story. I will be praying for you and your family. Good luck and God bless you.
In Him,
Tiffany Gass
