My first teleseminar or I can talk to thousands in my pajamas...well almost
Posted May 26, 2007

I remember the one thing I liked about working the morning drive on the radio station versus stand up comedy was that I didn't have to get all dressed up to perform. I could also reach massive audiences and people could "call in" if they wanted to comment.

Well, I found the 2007 equivalent of radio with all the benefits ...teleseminars.

The Miracle on Mothers Day
Posted May 18, 2007

I normally travel a lot but this Mother's Day weekend was a doozy. (Yes, I am actually using that word!)

First off I flew to San Francisco to do my "Dare to Do it" seminar for PG&E, the replacement gig from the ice storm back in February. The gig went great. I hugged a lot of audience people, sold some books, took a quick salsa class and was back on the plane in less than 24 hours. (Funny highlight of the trip was when I got ID'd by a guard and he printed out my tag with someone else's picture on it. He was nearsighted and asked, "Is that you?" I said, "Yes" took the pass on walked on in. (If you look closely at my ID on my shirt – that's not me!)

I arrived home on Friday at 3 a.m., slept a few hours, then drove three-hours to Scranton, PA to do a comedy show fundraiser for a firehouse. The audience was down to earth and fantastic. I didn't want to get off the stage! (Funny highlight of the Scranton trip was when I found out that the DJ for the night was a polka musician with a CD out. He told me that when he recorded his CD with a guitarist the studio wasn't sound proof, so they made the guitarist sit in the toilet for better acoustics! And I thought I had some rough gigs in my life.)

My Day in Prison
Posted May 10, 2007

I had just finished my comedy gig in Northeast Philly and I was feeling great. A big audience of accountants who were loosened up from alcohol and ready to laugh at any math joke you'd throw at them were in attendance. It seemed nothing could change my mood.

I had brought my gang with me.... my son, Spencer, his two friends, Vanessa and William and my friend, Wanda. I figured if I had a show in Philly why not also make a day of it. After a quick meal we looked in the tourist guide and was taking in all the options. Then we spotted it..."Prison now open...come and see the Eastern State Penitentiary – America's Most Historic Prison." Unfortunately there were no prices or times listed on the ad...so after a quick look on the internet we not only found the information we needed but also hit upon a gem...it was their annual..."Inmates and Guards" reunion. This I had to see.

I had heard about the prison because there was chapter in my, "It Happened in Pennsylvania" book about it. Now at first hearing that it might seem odd...how can I write about a place and not check it out? You see, the PA book was a co-authored book.

Using magnetism both on and off stage to help Autism
Posted May 4, 2007

In an earlier blog I wrote how I attended the Long Island Health and Fitness Expo and was given a triphase sports bracelet to wear by one of the Nikken Wellness Consultants, Gina Perretti, to help my injured shoulder. What I didn't expect was how this simple bracelet would open up a whole area of information on autism to me. Here's how it unfolded.

Gina put this green bracelet on me at the event and told me not only would it help my shoulder but that 10% of the sales of the bracelet went to an organization called Autism Speaks.

I figured since I'm always open to new things so why not give it a shot. Plus there was good karma around it because it was for a good cause.

Now to be honest I had no clue what the heck a tri-phase sports bracelet was, and I really wasn't that sure what exactly autism was either. I had heard about these things, but as far as details, I was clueless. So I had a lot of questions to ask.

"Hey Gina...can you explain exactly what his bracelet does? I mean, it doesn't feel like anything on my wrist."
Gina smiled, "The bracelet incorporates three technologies: magnetic, far infrared and negative ions."

Somehow I still felt as if I came in late to a science class and that Bill Ney the Science Guy was speaking. "Ah, yeah...can you explain exactly what that all means. You know draw a diagram or something."

Gina was more than willing to elaborate...in fact she was salivating she was so anxious. I could tell she really loved her work. "Okay, all living cells are designed to function with the earth's magnetic field, it's essential for growth and production. But the magnetic field of the earth has been weakened by sources of electromagnetism (alternating currents) that present a risk to all life forms. So by incorporating magnetic products into our lives we can provide balance and natural energy to the body and provide a form of protection against electromagnetism. In another words, magnetics can help speed recovery time in healing, add an increased oxygen carrying capacity to your system, and can aid in sleep."

"Wow, all that huh. Okay, well I've heard about this magnetic stuff before, but it just never seems like a real thing...but I do know in the animal kingdom there really does exist an animal magnetism. For example, I read that sharks, salmon, tuna, sea turtles, homing pigeons, bees, monarch butterflies, and whales are able to find their way to a place thousands of miles away, and can detect food and such through the uses of the earth's geomagnetic field. They actually have a third eye like sensor that leads them there just like signs on our highways do. If the magnetic field is disrupted in any way, there have been studies that show they will swim or fly in the opposite direction."

Now it was Gina's turn to say "Wow".
(Lucky for me I had just read an article on that and my short attention span theater of my mind was working.)
