The Last Mimzy

mimzy.jpgI took my children to see "The Last Mimzy" this weekend and I loved it. It was so engaging, my mind didn't drift even once....I saw 300 the night before and I was redecorating my house in my head the whole time...except when I was admiring Gerard Butler's new physique. But, I digress.

I highly suggest seeing it - I really do think it is as good as E.T. .... magical and such a good example of a supportive, loving family. See it!!

Sprinkles, Anyone?

0323_sprinklescupcakes.jpg Who doesn't love sprinkles? Remember decorating with them as a child? Sometimes I still put them on ice cream. Well, North Texas is getting "Sprinkles Cupcakes," Beverly-Hills-style! Let's just say some samples dropped into our laps and let me say these are waaay better than Betty Crocker. (Apologies to Betty Crocker, which I love to make at home.) These are gourmet, melt-in-your-mouth, rich and delish cupcakes. They're the cupcakes to the stars! Can Oprah, Tyra and Barbra be wrong?
The new store is in the Plaza at Preston Center. Here's more info...
Sprinkles Cupcakes. It opens Monday, March 26th.

Corduroy

corduroy.jpg
I love this scent! I bought it for my husband, but I gotta tell ya, sometimes I use it too! It smells so good. Sephora describes it like this:
Corduroy is a unique scent and the ultimate expression of masculinity. It captures the self-confidence and sophisticated chic of the man who creates his own destiny and his own personal signature - a fresh, sexy, masculine blend of fresh fruits, lush spices, and warm woods.
Notes:
Aquacoral, Grapefruit, Mandarin, White Lavender< Cardamom, Bay Rum Accord, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Davana, Suede, Virginian Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Guaiac Wood, Kashmir Wood, Vanilla, Tonka Bean.
Style:
Fresh. Masculine. Sensual.

Great read for parents

modernlove.jpgAnyone wanting something a little more thoughtful, a little deeper than what you find in most parenting magazines should check out Brain, Child. It is a great mix of essays, articles and commentary that really makes you think about the the exhilarating endeavor of raising children.
You may not always agree with the viewpoints -- I certainly don't -- but it's interesting to consider parenting topics through a variety of perspectives.
I gave subscriptions to several mom friends last year and they loved it, too.

Falling in love again

modernlove.jpgI've been a bookworm my whole life, but haven't been able to read as much as I would like lately. Probably has something to do with that second baby girl, the one who arrived about nine months ago.

I put down the magazines and got back into books with the help of Modern Love: 50 True and Extraordinary Tales of Desire, Deceit, and Devotion, a collection of essays originally published in The New York Times.

Some of the essays are funny, some are sad, and many could make you think about your own relationships. A great read, and perfect for anyone who can only dig into a book in small snatches of time.

Oh, My Nola

0301_connicknola.jpg Harry Connick Jr. is back at it again. He's returning to his New Orleans roots with this new album, "Oh, My Nola." One of my brothers turned me on to this, and now I'm dancing to it in my kitchen just about every night. It's great cooking music. I'm no music critic, but I'd describe this as a true New Orleans gumbo. It's got a little of everything in it. There's a little cajun, a lotta swing, some second-line marching music, a dash of jazz, a pinch of gospel and big band the way only Harry can do it. He also released a companion CD "Chanson du Vieux Carre" (Song of the French Quarter). I hear its more instrumental, but I can't tell you anything about it because I haven't listened to it, yet. Here's Connick's site.
