Gloria's faves for feet

Gloria Campos of News 8 is all about comfort when she's not working. (That's when you'll always see her in heels!) She told us her favorite flip flips are brown with turquoise accents by REEF. But if sneakers are more your style, she loves her Mary Janes by SKECHERS.

Cover your assets

070706_assets.jpgHate VPN? Here's something that smooths out your bottom line without having to wear full-length hose. (I hate hose!) There are a few style options. My favorite happens to be the bike-short length because they'll work under anything: Shorts, Skirts, Capris... They're awesome and very, very comfortable! No creepy crawliness. There are a few styles... even one that smooths from just below your ... eh-hem boobies to your thighs. Haven't tried those... If you do, let me know how it goes. One word of warning... there may be a little panty-hose dance involved in getting them on.
ASSETS by Sara Blakely are sold at Target.

Gloria's favorite scents

0707_perfume100.jpgGloria Campos told us recently she has a lot of favorite perfumes, but for the summer... her picks are florals. Specifically, she named Un Jardin Sur Le Nil from Hermes. But she also said she likes just about any gardenia fragrance. Hermes describes the scent as "A perfume of light and life, generous and sparkling." Hey. Wow. Gimme some of dat!

Kicking back with a good book

book.jpgI've finally been getting to do some reading, mostly light, quick reads.

One that stands out is Finishing Touches by Deanna Kizis, recently released in paperback. Jesse Holtz, a down-to-earth 20-something with flair for design, finds her stuck-in-neutral life changing dramatically after a close friend is injured in a car accident. Jesse narrates; her voice is engaging and real, and once you start reading, it's hard to stop. The book does a good job of capturing female friendships and the circumstances that take a close-knit group of friends down unexpected paths.

Ron Mueck at The Modern in Fort Worth

I haven't seen this exhibit yet, but I did get to see the one sculpture called (Untitled) Seated Woman and I was absolutely captivated. The exhibit opened yesterday and runs through October 21st.

From The Modern's website: Ron Mueck’s Untitled (Seated Woman), 1999, in the Modern’s permanent collection, became a community favorite when it was first put on exhibit for the opening of the Modern’s new building in 2002. Since that time, the Museum has continued to receive numerous comments, e-mail messages, and inquiries from visitors about this much-loved work of art. Thirteen works will be on view in the special exhibition, including Untitled (Seated Woman), 1999; the critically acclaimed Dead Dad, 1996–97, a scrupulously rendered, three-foot-long sculpture of the artist’s father lying naked on the floor; In Bed, 2005/6, a twenty-foot sculpture of a woman lying tucked in bed; and Baby, 2000, a ten-inch-long newborn infant. A thirty-minute video showing the artist at work will also be part of the exhibition, along with examples of his working materials and casts.
