The set-up for heavy rain has been in place since Monday and today, it played out in a big way. Gulf moisture has been streaming into Southeast Texas since Monday while a cold front has been slowly advancing across Texas. Today, training storms dumped over 6 inches of rain northeast of Houston in Humble and Kingwood, based on radar estimates.

It's hard to believe that we haven't seen a drop from the skies since Sept. 14, the day after Ike. That's when a cold front pushed the remnants of the storm out of Texas with one last flood-inducing downpour. Since then, we've had three cold fronts push across the state, but only todays brought any rain. While many needed the rain to revive lawns and plants; those with blue tarps on their roofs could have done without it. The good news is ...
