When the air is very dry like it was today and its very windy, the Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning. On Saturday, it's the East-West Shrine football game featuring some of best seniors from the college gridiron. It's Saturday at 3 pm at Robertson Stadium on the U of H campus:
Just thought I'd post a quick entry about some up-coming events. First, on Sunday, the Houston Marathon. I'm not a runner, but one of my fondest memories of this race was back in 1997, when we had an ice storm. It was really odd to see those great marathoners cross the finish line with icicles in their hair! No chance of that happening 12 years later. In fact, the weather looks pretty good - fairly typical mid-January weather with tempera... Even though its a New Year, some of the same weather patterns that showed up at the end of 2008 seem to be hanging around in 2009. The ever-undulating jet stream keeps dipping down into Texas every few days or so bringing a taste of cooler weather. However, the chill doesn't last more than a day or two because the jet stream changes once again. Take today for example. These were the morning lows on Wednesday, January 7:
The second day of 2009 has been unusually warm. Our low this morning of 64° is what the normal high should be. Warm, moist air continues to flow into Southeast Texas. Meanwhile, to our west, a devleoping upper-level storm system is poised to plow into that warm air and touch off showers and thunderstorms while you sleep tonight into Saturday morning.
