Just after 10 am, a severe storm ripped across southern Walker county, near New Waverly. David Paul was informing viewers with cut-ins and HD Doppler captured these great images of the storm: This one shows a yellow tube and white vertical lines. The lines are lightning strikes (nearly 700!) and the tube represents where the rotating winds were. We did have reports of a funnel cloud in New Waverly at this time, but no reports yet of any tornado touchdown. You can see the video of a tree knocked into a mobile home near New Waverly on our web site and this radar image shows the powerful winds, estimated by our radar at 100 mph. Definitely strong enough to knock down trees: The threat passed mainly north of Houston and only far northen Harris county saw any significant rain today. We're exprecting more storms tomorrow, though. Stay tuned. |
