Weather Poem

3:01 PM Thu, Feb 28, 2008 |

I've been talking about severe weather awareness this week, but now that the rodeo season is getting ready to kick into high gear, I'm switching into another mode. However, I did want to pass along a great poem that Devan Rodgers, an 11-year old weather enthusiast sent me in honor of severe weather awareness week:

Weather

Weather, Weather, in the air,
Often, so cold it tickles ...

In A Flash!

We continue with Severe Weather Awareness week and today, we're talking lightning. Late last night, or was it early this morning? I always get those confused. Anyway, I thought I heard someone throwing rocks on my window. Actually, it was hail from some rouge thunderstorms that rumbled through as a cold front swept across the state. By the way, anytime we didn't exactly forecast something properly, we refer to it as rogue.

Fortunat...

Preparation Is The Key To Success

That's a line that applies to most anything in life and it especially applies to being ready for severe weather. This is severe weather awareness week, as designated by the National Weather Service and declared by Governor Rick Perry. It's an annual ritual where we in the media, put the focus on the upcoming severe weather season, which is typically from early March through mid-June. That's the time of year when the atmosphere is undergoing...

LUNAR ECLIPSE

1:17 PM Wed, Feb 20, 2008 |

I was all psyched at the prospect of tonight's lunar eclipse - but alas, the weather is against us!  Too many clouds and some rain will make it nearly impossible for us to see this rare marvel.&...

BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES

As you may have heard by now, big storms are making their way here this evening.  So if you have outdoor plans, be sure you also have a plan for where to go when the winds pick up and the drenching rains fall.  Also, think about this - where will you park??

We are expecting large hail, perhaps as large or larger than golfballs with the storms that rumble through tonight.  Here at the station, everyone has tried to crowd t...

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

Yep, it's Valentine's Day and for the well-prepared, it's a snap. For the nearly 25% of the male population that forgot - it's time to sweat! This day just kind of creeps up on us - just a few months after Christmas and now it's nearly two weeks after our favorite holiday - the Super Bowl. But, if you're fortunate to have love in your life, you need to take care of business today, even if it's just flowers and candy. Forgetting about it an...

LET'S GET READY 2 RUMBL

Actually, I can't spell that correctly, otherwise, I might get sued.  Yes, Michael Buffer claims to own a trademark for that phrase and did sue a TV station recently when a reporter uttered that phrase.  Since it's misspelled here, I guess I'm in the clear.

But our skies are rumbling and unless Mr. Buffer wants to sue the Almighty, he'd better watch it - lightning bolts usually find their mark.  Strong thunderstorms ...

Dress In Layers

You'd need some weather instruments to know that a cool front is slipping across the state tonight.  Our southwest winds will shift to the northwest by morning and cooler and drier air will move in making Friday morning chilly once again.  But there aren't any clouds or rain with the front.  However, the influence of the front will be gone by afternoon and with plenty of sunshine, our temperatures will soar into the low 70s.  ...

S-U-N-N-N-N!!!

That's supposed to be an imitation of the Latin broadcaster who says, "G-O-O-A-A-L-L!!" when someone scores in soccer. But in this case, it describes our weather the next few days. We dodged the severe weather bullet last night - there were only a few rough spots, but thankfully no tornadoes like Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas experienced. I'm getting a bit concerned - this is only early February and already we're seeing the kind of poten...

Back In H-town!

Well, it's great to be back in the 4th largest city in the U.S.  Already, the weather has been challenging.  When I arrived at the end of January, it was chilly, drizzly and cool, this past weekend, it felt like summer (okay, a little like summer) and now storms are moving in this afternoon ahead of a cold front that will cool us off again for the middle of the week.

So far, I noticed quite a few changes since I left 8 ...
