Green Living invites you to their semi-annual E-Waste Round Up on Saturday, November 7 from Noon-5:00pm in the Lakewood Shopping Center parking lot. Green Living will take your old, obsolete, and broken electronics and properly recycle them in partnership with
Irving-based E-Waste Collections. Recycling unwanted electronics is the responsible way to keep hazardous materials such as mercury, lead and arsenic from leaching into the environment and reclaiming valuable precious metals for new use.
As technology advances, it leaves many people with obsolete computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, cell phones, etc., and many people don't know what to do with these devices. As a result, over 1.5 million computers enter the waste stream annually. According to the EPA, electronic waste is one of the fastest growing segments of our nation's waste stream. Consumer electronics also constitute 40% of the lead found in landfills, which are not designed to contain these hazardous types of materials. These
harmful containments can leach out of the landfills and into our drinking water supplies.
Spiceman's F.M. 1410 will also be on hand with cooking demonstrations featuring recipe ideas for Thanksgiving using local produce. The cooking demonstrations will also feature Fissler cookware, which can save as much as 50% of the energy traditionally used in cooking. Using local grown produce and using cookware that requires less energy are just a few ways that Green Living encourages customers to Give Thanks to the Planet this fall.
Green Living is located at 1904 Abrams Parkway in the Lakewood Shopping Center.
Directions to the store and the complete list of electronics that will be accepted during the event are available at www.green-living.com.
