04.17.2009 - DALLAS (April 17, 2009) - Mockingbird Station, the premier mixed-use, transit-oriented development in North Texas, will host a property-wide Earth Day celebration and local Farmers Market on Wednesday, April 22 (4-8 p.m.).

Featuring various activities around the property, the celebration will kick off the Station's local Farmers Market series, taking place in the outdoor pavilion every Thursday (5-8 p.m.) through the month of May. A consortium of area growers, organic farmers and community gardens will be on-hand with locally grown produce. In addition, organizations including the Lake Highlands Community Garden, Your Health Source Organic Food Co-op and the Texas Honeybee Guild will offer interactive Earth Day demonstrations to the public.

"Mockingbird Station always has taken pride in our community, so Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to expose the public to local organizations and people with talent, passion and a dedication to the environment," said Pam Baker, the Station's general manager.

"Given the momentum we've seen toward all things garden these days, this local Farmers Market could not happen at a better time," said Nancy Wilson, organizer with the Lake Highlands Community Garden. "Beyond making locally grown produce available, it allows even the most urban residents to learn how they can grow plants and herbs on their balconies or even tomatoes in pots."

In conjunction with the Farmers Market, the Station also will be the site of a sidewalk sale with eco-friendly or locally made merchandise from participating retailers such as American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, Paperie & Co. and Michael Raymond Salon. For its part, the Angelika Film Center & Café will debut the Disney documentary EARTH.

Rounding out the Earth Day celebration that evening, PURE Dental, the Station's new eco-chic dental office, will host a VIP launch party (7-9 p.m.) with Society Stylist and Glamour Magazine for Almay's Pure Blends, an environmentally-friendly make-up line. The soirée, which includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres and organic wine for attendees, will double as a fundraiser for local designer consignment charity, The Ultimate Exchange.

Coinciding with that event, Movida Boutique will host an in-store Earth Day fashion show (7-9 p.m.). In partnership with Parkerhawn Vintage, this evening of old-meets-new fusion style will benefit For the Love of the Lake, a volunteer group working to preserve and enhance White Rock Lake Park.

All of the Earth Day events at Mockingbird Station are free of charge and open to the public. To find out more information, call (214) 452-7180 or visit www.mockingbirdstation.com.
