Green Living invites you to their semi-annual E-Waste Round Up
on Saturday, May 2nd from Noon-4:00pm in the Lakewood Shopping Center parking lot. Green Living will take your old, obsolete, and broken electronics and properly recycle them in partnership with Irving-based e-Waste Collections. Recycling unwanted electronics is the responsible way to keep hazardous materials such as mercury, lead and arsenic from leaching into the environment and reclaiming valuable precious metals for new use. According to new storeowner, Tom Bazzone, the last E-Waste Round Up held this past fall diverted over 10 tons of e-waste out of our landfills and into the proper disposal channels. His goal for this year's event is to collect over 15 tons of e-waste. "My vision is to provide our community with a fast, easy, and responsible way to recycle their old electronics as part of their spring and fall cleaning routines." As technology advances, it leaves many people with obsolete computers, monitors, printers, fax
machines, cell phones, etc., and many people don't know what to do with these devices. As a result, over 1.5 million computers enter the waste stream annually. According to the EPA, electronic waste is one of the fastest growing segments of our nation's waste stream. Consumer electronics also constitute 40% of the lead found in landfills, which are not designed to contain these hazardous types of materials. These harmful containments can leach out of the landfills and into our drinking water supplies. Green Living is located at 1904 Abrams Parkway in the Lakewood Shopping Center.
