The Live Green Lawn Mower Exchange is available for residents of Allen, Richardson and Plano, who exchange their working, gasoline-powered mowers for clean electric or manually-powered units at a reduced price. Reserve a voucher of up to $150 and purchase your new mower at one of three participating suppliers. Vouchers are limited to 250 mowers and will be issued on a first-come basis. For reservations, contact Yarcus Lewis, LEED AP, project coordinator, at (972)769-4381 or yarcusl@plano.gov. This project is made possible by a grant from the Sue Pope Fund, a project of Downwinders at Risk. For more details, visit www.suepopefund.org Benefits of an electric or people-powered mower include reduced air pollution, and enhanced public awareness about the correlation between personal activities and their impact on air quality. The EPA estimates gas mowers emit as much hourly pollution as 11 cars. "This is a great opportunity for residents to go green with lawncare maintainance and do their part for clean air," said Lewis. "The exchange is a tangible effort to reduce pollution for average homeowners because there's no longer a need to buy fuel, oil or tune-ups for their mowers." After contacting Lewis, approved participants of the program may bring their working, gas-powered mowers to a collection drop off point at the Live Green Expo, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at the Plano Centre located at 2000 E. Spring Creek Pkwy in Plano. Presented by the Cities of Plano, Allen and Richardson, the Expo is a FREE, family, fun event that will help North Texans make informed decisions and take action to lead more healthy lives with less impact on our environment. Visit www.livegreeninplano.com for more information about the program. |
