Sunday, August 24, Christ United Methodist Church, Plano broke ground on a new 60,000 square foot sanctuary and connecting space. The $14 million project is anticipated to take 18 months to complete construction. The Christ UMC Building Committee voted to construct a sustainable building for the future. They will seek LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the US Green Building Council. This will be the first LEED certified sanctuary in the state of Texas. A LEED building is better for the environment and healthier for the occupants. Christ UMC's design and construction goals are to use less water, reduce energy usage by 14%, divert 75% of construction waste from local landfills by recycling, build with materials that contain recycled content, and provide better indoor environmental air quality by using low VOC products. |
