Four top officials of Houston-based Shipley Do-Nuts pleaded guilty to conspiring to harbor illegal aliens, federal authorities confirmed on Friday. Shipley president Lawrence Shipley III and three of the company's managers admitted guilt after reaching a plea bargain with federal prosecutors.

On Friday, the company also pleaded guilty to similar charges.

After the pleas were announced, Shipley III said in an interview with the Houston Chronicle that the company would be "absolutely committed to immigration compliance in its hiring practices,"

A man and his dog were found dead inside a burning car on Sunday morning.

An HPD patrol office noticed the car on fire in an apartment complex parking lot on Elmside around 8:55 a.m. After the fire was put out, firefighters noticed the man in the driver's seat and his dog on the floor of the backseat.

A former Houston contract employee of the Calpine Corporation has been convicted of allegedly stealing the identity of a Calpine executive.

Robert Smith, 28, admitted that from mid-2006 through April 29, 2007, he was assigned to Calpine as a contract employee to maintain desktop computer support services and entrusted with administrative privileges to perform these tasks.
