Earlier this week, US Customs and Border Protection were working to sound of their own drum and it paid off. A large shipment of elephant ivory was seized at the Port of Houston found hidden inside a shipment of musical instruments. U.S. Customs and Border Protection say they discovered the ivory on a ship arriving from Ethiopia hidden withside musical drums on July 15. While inspecting the instruments, the CBP noticed six of the drums appeared to be heavier than expected and when tapped the drums produced a dull tone. When they opened the wooden and leather drums, they discovered articles made of ivory concealed inside. The shipment is valued at $185,000. |
