Dawn Brown: November 2007 ArchivesBack to the cooler weather for your Monday forecast as a strong cold front moves through the region. Sunday, we saw rain totals anywhere from 2 to 6 inches. (higher totals in coastal regions) In Buras, strong winds downed power poles around 6pm on Sunday evening. The line of stronger thunderstorms gradually moved East, exiting the region by midnight. Light showers may continue through the night ending by daybreak Monday. ...Currently, as of 1pm... I'm watching an area of thunderstorms just south of Terrebonne Bay and Timbalier Island. The area is showing signs of rotation as well as damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. Boaters near Terrebonne Bay should seek safe harbor. Otherwise, light to moderate and even heavy rainfall is falling across parts of Southeast Lousiana as a storm system propels itself across the forecast area in the next 12 hour... A large plume of moisture in the Gulf of Mexico is remaining to the South of SE Louisiana this evening... so although we could see some isolated coastal thunderstorms overnight... and light showers overnight, it appears the threat for severe weather Saturday night has diminished. We are still watching for the possibility of some strong storms Sunday into Monday however. ...With warmer air entering the picture in the overnight hours, there is the possibility of some strong to severe thunderstorms between midnight tonight and Sunday morning. A warm front can't lead to enough instability to provide for isolated severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and strong winds. Temperatures will be in the mid 50s this afternoon, warming to the upper 50s overnight. Sunday highs will be in the 70s. Then a cold front moves thr... The area of low pressure to our West stalled over Houston, dumping heavy over the Houston metro area. It's slowly making its way into SE Louisiana... expect scattered light to moderate rain this Sunday afternoon, and spotty showers Sunday night. Overnight lows near 60. The next cold front moves through Wednesday into Thursday. ...An area of low pressure is pulling moisture in from the south, allowing for the chance of heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms late Saturday night into Sunday morning. It looks like most of the rain will move into SE Louisiana after midnight Saturday. There is a chance of light rain on the northshore earlier Saturday evening. Heavy rain and overcast skies possible on Sunday. 60% chance for rain/t'storms for Saints/Texans in Houston. ... We have several storm systems traversing the country over the next several days... but they won't have much of an impact on our area until Friday. A large area of surface high pressure will maintain it's position across the Eastern Seaboard. Since we're on the west side of the high, winds wrapping around the high are bringing moisture back into the region from the Gulf of Mexico. That moisture is bringing in a 20 percent chance of light rain ... It's almost t-shirt and shorts weather for tailgating for the LSU and Tulane games this evening. I say almost... because even though we'll see temps in the upper 70s this afternoon, we might see a few light showers, and temps will cool during the game to low 60s by around 11pm tonight. Afternoon highs this week will once again flirt with 80 degrees by the middle of the week, before a front moves through Friday into Saturday. Click on the blog ... For those of us saluting our veterans this weekend, it's going to be a nice one. There is a chance for a few sprinkles Saturday through Monday, but the chance remains around 10 percent. Expect more cloud cover Saturday and Sunday, and temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. ... |
