With dewpoints rising to the mid 60s, temperatures won't drop off quite as quickly across the area... allowing for more comfortable temperatures during the evening and overnight hours. The 14th named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed in the Caribbean Sea, south of Haiti. The storm is expected to move on a WNW track toward Cuba over the next several days before taking a Northeasterly turn toward the Bahamas and open Atlantic. Because of a strong westerly pattern over the continental United States... the storm is not expected to affect the Gulf Coast. For more information... go to our Hurricane Page. ...Tropical Depression # 16 has fromed in the SE Caribbean Sea, south of Hispaniola. The current path has this storm strengthening to Tropical Storm Noel before making landfall near Cuba on Tuesday. After this, upper level winds are expected to turn the storm toward the Northeast, a common occurence with storms that form in the Caribbean at this time of year. Go to our hurricane page for more information. ...Folks have been getting used to turning the clocks back the week before Halloween... ending Daylight Saving Time. However, this year, daylight saving time has been extended due to the 2005 Energy Policy Act. So, you have to wait next week, November 3rd and 4th to change the clocks back. ...We'll see a little bit more sunshine this Wednesday, but still cool temperatures as well as breezy conditions. An upper level low is spinning over the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys bringing cool air in from the North for the next couple of days. ...The cold front has pushed through the area... a few light showers remain this morning, but the main thrust of the forecast today is cool, windy and temperatures in the 60s. Grab a sweater or light jacket as you're headed out the door! ...A messy Monday morning commute because of areas of heavy rainfall today. Expect rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. ...It's a gorgeous day today with plenty of blue sky, low dewpoints and mild temperatures. A strong area of high pressure is positioned over Alabama and Mississippi allowing for a dry stable airmass this Saturday. However, big changes in the forecast for Sunday through Wednesday. ...The airmass is drying out and cooling down. Overnight a mass of showers rolled through the area, dumping heavy rains in coastal parishes. The front has moved through. Expect sunny skies and cooler drier air until Sunday afternoon. ...Busy morning with a heavy thunderstorm crossing the New Orleans metro area earlier today. Plenty of moisture combined with upper level winds have allowed for an unstable environment to develop across the forecast area. There is a slight risk for severe weather across the forecast this afternoon, and possible again Friday morning. ...Some heavy thunderstorms are close to the metro area and travelling north. Expect heavy showers along parts of Interstate 10 for the next hour as well as Interstate 55 heading north through Tangipahoa and Livingston Parishes. Winds will be switching to the east/southeast today, allowing for a more humid airmass to enter the picture. ...Temps in the low 80s today for afternoon highs. Plenty of blue sky Saturday all across the Eastern United States... so great football weather for Tulane in Birmingham and LSU in Kentucky. A little bit of a change up in the weather for the near future. ...It's that time of year when a cold front is actually a cold front. Fronts are boundaries at the surface between two different air masses. During the summer, these boundaries are usually between drier continental air and warm, moist tropical air. But, now... cooler air from Canada is making its way into the Southern United States. ...A cold front marching across the central United States will be moving through SE Lousiana and Mississippi later today and into the evening. Out ahead of the front, the chance of showers today is 40 percent. We could see some isolated heavy thunderstorms... but nowhere near the activity we saw yesterday. ...Tropical moisture sent northward into the central Gulf this morning and afternoon is dumping heavy rain on the southshore, and especially the metro area. Expect bands of heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon. As of 1pm, downtown Slidell was starting to see some heavy activity as well. ...A strong cold front is bisecting the United States in half this morning. Heavy rain is falling across the Upper Midwest. We don't expect that much rainfall out of the front. Rather, our thunderstorm development this afternoon is due to a typical summertime pattern. ...The forecast for this weekend reads: Clouds & sunshine, hot and humid, chance for afternoon thunderstorms... sounds like a summertime pattern. Well, that is what we are looking at for the next several days. But a cool down is in the 7 day outlook! ...Another summerlike pattern is developing for this weekend with a high pressure system to our East just pumping those Southeasterly winds into the forecast region... allowing for a chance of showers each day in the 7 day outlook. A front is right around the corner though, look for drier air toward the end of next week. ...The moisture has been piling up along the SE Lousiana/Mississippi coastlines... and we've already seen a few showers this morning. Not much as far rainfall accumulations, but we could see some heavy showers at times ...Dry air in the Gulf (keeping our weather nice) is making it difficult for a low pressure system to our South and East to develop, but we are continuing to monitor this system for possible development in the next 24-36 hours. ... |
