Dawn Brown: September 2006 ArchivesThe severe thunderstorms that rolled through East and West Baton Rouge Parishes continue to push toward the east, and are expected to move through St. Tammany and Washington Parishes this afternoon. Expect locally heavy rainfall and possibly hail and damaging winds with these storms. ...The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge Parishes. As of 1pm, a line of heavy thunderstorms is approaching Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. These thunderstorms are capable of producing strong winds, hail and locally heavy rain. This line could continue to affect portions of SE Lousiana north of Lake Pontchartrain. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies, increasing humidity, and... Tropical Depression #18... what would become Hurricane Rita formed the morning of September 18, 2005. Today Southern Mississippi bore the brunt of the strong thunderstorms, Southeast Lousiana can expect a better chance of rain in the Sunday forecast. Tonight, there is still a 30% chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms across the area, otherwise warm, humid and breezy. Sunday, a cold front will make its way through the region. With the front approaching, we expect mostly cloudy skies Sunday with a 70-80% chance of rain a... The front and associated upper level low approaching from the west is bring cooler air into the picture for the middle part of the week. The front is expected to move through SE Lousiana Monday night. Some thunderstorms along the cold front could be strong. Behind it, cooler air is forecast to move into the region for a few days, bringing highs down to the low 80s, and overnight lows north of the lake to the upper 50s for Wednesday and Thursda... At 10am this morning, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake was measured by the US Geological Survey in the Gulf of Mexico. The quake was 329 miles SE of New Orleans and 260 miles WSW of Clearwater, Florida. A magnitude 6.0 earthquake is classified a strong on the Richter scale, a scale to measure the seismic energy released by an earthquake. So far, no reports from the quake which was 6.2 miles in depth, but people from North Carolina to Florida felt tr... It may be hard to see the International Space Station tonight. Best times for viewing are at about 7:39 as the ISS cross the sky at 42' SW sky and 11' SE sky for about 3 minutes. But with the extra cloud cover associated with a stationary front, we may not be able to see the space station tonight. You'll have another opportunity for viewing on September 20th.
