There is a better chance for showers or thunderstorms over the weekend due to an increase in moisture and the approach of a cool front. Today's chance for rain is 40% with highs around 90. Sunday's rain chance is 50% with highs in the upper 80s. A cool front will move through late Sunday allowing drier and slightly cooler air to return Monday through Wednesday.

Friday's chance for rain will be 20% with hot and humid conditions. Highs around 90. Saturday's rain chance will be 40% and 30% on Sunday. Sunday another front is expected to pass through. Drier air comes back for Monday through Wednesday.

The dewpoints are going up again so humidity levels will continue to do so. Rain chances return Thursday at 10% then 20% on Friday. Highs will be around 90.
Over the weekend, the rain chances are slightly higher due to a front moving into SE Louisiana and S Mississippi. Rain chances 40% Saturday and 30% Sunday with the front coming through. More dry air is expected Monday & Tuesday.

One more day of scattered showers or thunderstorms with some downpours on Friday. Highs will be in the upper 80s to around 90.

Scattered showers & thunderstorms will continue for Thursday and Friday. Some downpours may cause some street flooding. Highs will be in the upper 80s to around 90.

Scattered thunderstorms expected again on Tuesday and some heavy rainfall is possible. There were numerous Urban Flood Advisories across SE Louisiana for possible street flooding. Highs Tuesday will be upper 80s to around 90.

Tropical Storm Claudette is 25 miles west of Panama City or 70 miles ESE of Pensacola with winds of 50 mph. Heavy rain east of the center will affect the FL panhandle. Not much of a threat for us except for a few spotty showers or thunderstorms possible through Monday morning.

Radars out of Tampa indicated a circulation in the wave that is increasing our chance for rain today. NHC had upgraded this wave to TD#4 at 8am and now is upgraded to TS Claudette. Landfall late this evening is expected at the Florida Panhandle. No threat to us in SE LA at this time.

The remnants of TD #2 regenerates to TS Ana, the first named storm of the season. The strong tropical wave behind it became TD #3 and could also develop into TS Bill later today or this weekend.
A tropical wave over Cuba and the Florida strait will increase our chance for rain tomorrow and on Monday.

An approaching tropical wave will increase the chance for rain over the weekend. Rain chance on Saturday will be 30% for spotty thunderstorms. That will increase on Sunday from 30% in the early morning to 50% by mid to late morning and into the afternoon. Some heavy downpours are possible. The wave will cause rain chances to go up even more on Monday to 70%.

TD #2 has now weakened to a remnant low pressure area. It is no longer expected to become a tropical storm. A second wave behind this system will be watched for the potential of development. See our Tropical IWeather for more details.
A tropical wave over Hispanola will move into the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday and start to increase our rain chances for Sunday and Monday.

After scattered thunderstorms and severe thunderstorms and heavy rain, we are going to get a little break from the high rain chances and downpours. Rain chances for Thursday & Friday will be around 10% for isolated thunderstorms. Still hot & humid with highs in the mid 90s and the heat index over 100.

The peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower is tonight (Tuesday night) and also Wednesday night. Take your pick. It all depends on how much cloud cover will be left over from the day's thunderstorms.
Best viewing times will be between 11pm and dawn both nights. Just look up and hopefully you will see meteors between partly cloudy skies during the overnight hours.

On August 4th, The team from Colorado State University updated their forecast for the 2009 Hurricane season. Because of now having El Nino, which may even progress to a moderate one, the forecast is down from the previouse one.
Dr Gray and Dr Klotzbach expect now 10 name storms, 4 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes. The average for a season is 11 names storms, 6 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes.
