3:07 PM Thu, Sep 25, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

This nice weather will continue through weekend with 1st chance for rain not until Tuesday. Lots of sunshine the next few days with low humidity. We are taking advantage of the bad weather associated with an area of low pressure off the North Carolina coast. The flow on the backside of this low continues to bring in a dry flow over our area. This system may become a tropical or subtropical system.

Tropical Storm Kyle has formed n...

Carl Arredondo

Tropical Storm warnings dropped and replaced with a Wind Advisory through Saturday for winds of 20-30 mph.

Ike is about 53 miles from Galveston with winds of 110 mph, a category 2 hurricane. We are still feeling some tropical storm gusts around the area. Air Force Hunters reporting that winds a few hundred feet above the surface are category 4 force winds of 130 mph. This would do a number on the high rises in downtown Housto...

Carl Arredondo

Tropical Storm winds will continue to spread inland overnight and spread all across the area during the day Friday. Powerlines and tree limbs may be affected by the strong winds. Heavy rain bands will move quickly through the area through Friday night and still possible on Saturday.

Water levels will continue to rise through Friday. High tides will be from mid morning to early afternoon. Tides are expected to be 6-8' above...

Ike 4pm

4:07 PM Thu, Sep 11, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

Hurricane Ike has a large wind field and that is why tropical storm warnings were extened earlier today to include New Orleans, northshore and to AL boarder. Tropical storm force winds extend out 275 miles on the eastern side of the storm. South of the lake is the most likely locations to see tropical storm force winds, but there may be gusts over tropical storm force on the northshore. Power outages are possible.

10pm Ike

10:04 PM Wed, Sep 10, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

Computer models still disagree some as to landfall from the central to upper TX coast. The forecast track has shifted a bit to the right. Ike is expected to turn more to the west/northwest overnight. Strengthening is expected to continue and will make landfall as a major hurricane.

Coastal flood warnings are up from MS through the Lake to Terrebonne parish for tides to run 3-5' above normal.

A tropical storm warning i...

4:02 PM Wed, Sep 10, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

Ike continues to gain strength as it moves over warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The models still target the Texas coast, but still spread out a bit from the Upper Texas coast to the Lower Texas coast. A tropical storm warning has been issued from the mouth of the MS river to Cameron, LA. A Coastal Flood warning is up tonight through Friday ...

Computer models continue to show Ike to head towards Texas. There may still be some shifts, but SE Louisiana continues to be out of the "cone of error". Coastal Flooding will be an issue Wednesday through Friday.

AT 10:00 PM THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IKE WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 23.2 NORTH...LONGITUDE 84.3 WEST OR ABOUT 120 MILE...

10pm Ike

9:52 PM Mon, Sep 08, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

More encouraging data from the computer models. It seems that a shift more to the south is apparent. We have to make sure that there are no changes in the future. I remind everyone that on Friday the cone of error was from south Florida south to south of Cuba with the middle track to the Florida straits. Look where Ike is now, on the extreme southern edge of that cone of error. That is why I caution to don't just look at the middle...

4pm IKE

3:59 PM Mon, Sep 08, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

Computer models have shifted westward a bit more and gives the Louisiana coast a little breathing room. However, coastal flooding is likely with a strong east and southeast winds later in the week. There may be some heavy tropical rains from Ike. This also depends on how close Ike gets to SE Louisiana. We may also get strong winds even up to ...

Ike

6:12 AM Sun, Sep 07, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

At 4am Gustav was located 21.1N 72.2W or 65 miles east of Great Inagua Island. Sustained winds are 135 mph, a category 4 hurricane and is moving w/sw at 15 mph. High pressure is steering Ike towards Cuba. There is a weakness in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and high pressure is building over the northern Gulf. It appears now that Ike may get close to our coast before bumping into the high and then travel west. How close it gets to our...

Busy Tropics

6:59 PM Thu, Sep 04, 2008 |
Carl Arredondo

Gustav still brought some rain and downpours to the area Thursday. We will have one more day of some rain/thunderstorms before some nicer conditions move in. A front will bring some drier air in later Saturday and Sunday and Monday. It will still be hot, but less rain and less humid.

This front may help down the road in keeping Ike from being a big threat in the Gulf of Mexico. There is still a chance that Ike can affect the...
