Much Better For Parades

Today will be much better with temperatures this afternoon beginning in the 50s and climbing into the low 60s for highs. Evening parades will be in the 50s falling to the 40s. We don't expect rain today.

Rain Slowly Moving Out

As of 8pm, Rain over the southshore should start tapering off. Rain may continue north of the lake for a few more hours. Chilly overnight lows for Saturday morning in the 40s.

Rain may still be around through the morning hours and ending around noon Saturday. Cool highs in the mid 50s in the afternoon and drier. Dry and chilly for the evening parades.

Wet Parades Tonight?

There is a batch of rain coming this afternoon with some rain and maybe some wind and lightning. This rain may be out of here before the parades start. There is still a 30% chance for parades and chilly weather in the 40s.

Hurricane Hunter coming Sunday & Monday

The NOAA P-3 Hurricane Hunter will be at Lakefront Airport on Sunday from 12- 4 p.m. for the public to view - free of charge. Then on Monday, Jan. 21st the NOAA aircraft will be joined by the Air Force Reserve’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters of the Air Force Reserve, and their WC-130J aircraft and crew. Rain done for now with the exception of maybe a sprinkle left over. Flash Flood Watch has been canceled. We still have a Coastal Flood Watch until 9pm and Wind Advisory until 9pm.

Dry for Thursday and still cool. Lows north of the lake upper 30s to low 40s and 40s south of the lake. Highs in the upper 50s to around 60.

A strong Gulf Low will be impacting the Gulf Coast and Greater New Orleans over the next 24 hours. This means plenty of rain, with a 1-2" of rain. This will also be accompanied by gale force winds along the coast. A coastal flood watch extends from Waveland, MS to Port Fourchon, LA for tides to run 2-3' above normal. Some minor flooding may occur outside the protected levee area.

A nice day today and one more coming for Tuesday with a few more clouds. A big storm system will come out of the Gulf and bring an ugly day on Wednesday with the threat of wind and thunderstorms with chilly temperatures.

A light freeze or frost again overnight north of the lake. South of the lake upper 30s to low 40s. Highs on Tuesday upper 50s to near 60.

Public Stargazing Event Saturday Night

There will be a public stargaze at Bayou Segnette Park on Saturday January 12th, from 6 to 9 PM. This event is being hosted by the Pontchartrain Astronomy Society.

A great day today. A coolish weekend still to come.

The chance for rain on Saturday is lowered to 10% as upper energy travels across the area. The area of low pressure expected to develop in the Gulf may not develop or if it does will be far enough south. Lows Saturday morning north of the lake 34-39 and south of the lake 42-47. Highs 61-66.

At 7pm, the tornado watch was allowed to expire. Rain extends from Hancock county to central Jefferson parish to Terrebonne.

Turning chilly overnight with lows Friday morning in the mid 40s north of the lake and upper 40s to low 50s south of the lake. Dry and cool for Friday in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Line of Storms Moving In

At 4:45pm, the line of thunderstorms extends from Angie to Covington to Laplace to Morgan City. This line will take the next 2-3 hours to move through SE Louisiana. Heavy downpours, frequent Lightning, small hail, and possible tornadoes may move through with this line. The Tornado Watch continues until 7pm.

Cool weather this afternoon is temporary because it will warm up tomorrow ahead of the next front, then cool down for a while after Thursday.

A line of thunderstorms will move through the area during the overnight hours. Chance for thunderstorms 50% from Pearl River County through St Tammany and the southshore.

A 40% chance for a few showers or thunderstorms the rest of this Tuesday afternoon then after 8 or 9pm the chance increases to 50% for scattered showers or thunderstorms with a front coming through briefly.

The front will move back to the north during the day Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon will still have a 20-30% chance for light rain or drizzle with highs in the upper 60s.

Very mild air in the mid to upper 70s this Monday afternoon will only fall into the 60s during the evening hours. Any chance for rain this evening will only be 10%.

Overnight lows only in the low to mid 60s with some fog possible, but it will remain breezy and that may help fog to not be a widespread problem.

Tuesday's rain chance increasing in the afternoon & evening to 40% with highs around in mid to upper 70s.

OK, warmer weather for the weekend.

Today's temps are reaching the lower 60s. Tonight's lows will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s with a bit of a breeze.

Saturday will have a 20% chance for rain and highs in the lower 70s.

Sunday will start with upper 50s to lower 60s and highs in the mid 70s. Rain chance at 20% again. Breezy conditions will continue through Tuesday of next week.

After lower 20s north this morning and upper 20s in the city, our highs today will be in the 40s.

Hard Freeze North & West of Lake including River Parishes tonight and tomorrow night. Wrap all exposed pipes, cover plants, and take care of pets and people. South of the lake in the city, a light to moderate freeze both nights. Pipes should be ok on southshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Care for pets, plants, and people. The main concern for pipes is for temperatures below 28 degrees for 4 hours or more.
