At 4:45pm, heavy thunderstorms are moving into Jefferson & Orleans parishes in time for rush hour. Heavy downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning can be expected.

Heavier rainfall amounts as of 4pm, Audubon 1.88", Folsom 1.40", Hammond 1.32", Gramercy 1.06".

TD #3 Forms off the U.S.

Tropical Depression #3 forms off the coast of North Carolina at 10pm and will not affect the U.S. It is located at 36.1N 66.0W or 270 miles NNW of Bermuda. TD #3 could become Tropical Storm Chantal in the morning before it becomes extra-tropical.

Another area east of the Windward Islands is showing signs of getting better organized. This too could become a Tropical Depression or a Tropical Storm. The next name on the list would be ...

Scat'd Thunderstorms Monday may continue into the night north of the lake. Thunderstorms are moving south into northern Tangipahoa and Washington parishes at 8pm.

Rain is tapering off. Some rainfall amounts of 2" reported. Belle Chasse 2.01", Des Allemands 2.10", and Cut Off 2.02". Most rainfall amounts were from .50" to 1.50".

Tropical Moisture

A large area of tropical moisture is in the Gulf of Mexico. No development is expected due to strong upper level winds. It will continue to spread moisture inland and keep our rain chances high.

Heat Index for Wednesday was up to 106 degrees at Audubon Park. Highs were in the low to mid 90's today with very few thunderstorms.

A Severe Thunderstorm warning was issued for Tangipahoa parish this afternoon. Trees were blown down on Sibley Road in Independence.

A rainbow was reported over the city at 6pm this evening.
