A W/NW track is expected, but may not strengthen very much due to strong shear and some drier air in the area. This system will continue to be watched, but at the 10pm advisory, the National Hurricane Center has it dissipating on Thursday. ...Strong thunderstorms still possible this afternoon & evening. Rain chances going down to 40% for Tuesday and 20% for Wed & Thu. Look for mid 90's Wed & Thu with the feel like temperature between 100-110. One tropical wave east of the Leeward Islands may be the next system to develop. Models have it staying mostly out of the Caribbean, but may affect the U.S. Virgin Islands as it makes it's way in the Atlantic. Still alot of time to... At 1:30pm, strong thunderstorms over northern Hancock county near Kiln are moving west towards Pearl River county and St Tammany & Washington parishes. Strong thunderstorms with heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning can be expected. ...Thunderstorms still expected over the weekend. Sunday may have a few more than Saturday. Highs will be in the low to mid 90's. An increase in thunderstorms expected Monday & Tuesday. The tropical wave in the Caribbean shows no signs of organization. During the 2pm hour, a strong thunderstorm is located over Orleans and Jefferson parishes. Brief heavy downpour possible. It is moving slowly N/NW. The weak area of low pressure that has been affecting the western Gulf of Mexico is located over SE Texas. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are located over SE Texas and SW Louisiana. No development will happen since the low is over land and continues to move north. No other development is expected elsewhere in the tropics. There is a wave just east of the Lesser Antilles, but upper level winds are not favorable. What a difference a... Pressures are still low over extreme south Texas to near Baffin Bay. A low may still try to form just off the Texas coast and will have to be watched. There is still alot of tropical moisture and upper level winds can favor development. We can still expect rain scattered about for Wednesday. IF a depression forms, it would move north towards the Texas coast. A weak surface low is about 45 miles SW of Brownsville, TX over NE Mexico is still bringing alot of tropical moisture to Louisiana. With the low over land, development is not expected. It will be watched to see if it moves back over water, but at this time is not expected to. The remainder of Tuesday afternoon & evening will be wet. The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a * Flood Watch for portions of southeast Louisiana and southern A front will move into Southeast Louisiana and be the focus for thunderstorms over the weekend. There is a slight risk for some of the thunderstorms to become strong or severe. Highs on Saturday may get back into the mid 90's before thunderstorms get going. Many times we get calls in the weathercenter on why we are not breaking in to inform the public on the severe thunderstorm going on in someone's area. The National Weather Service for the New Orleans area is located in Slidell. They issue the warnings for severe thunderstorms or tornadoes for our area. We then either cut into programming or run a crawl at the bottom of your screen or both. However, the thunderstorm has to be severe and fit... Until 3:30pm, there is an Urban Flood Advisory for SE St Tammany parish for slow moving thunderstorms which may produce heavy rain. Some street flooding is possible with these slow moving thunderstorms which are moving west. ...Thunderstorms finally died out after reports of wind damage in Kenner and Metairie. Hail reports in Metaire as well. Some street flooding along Elysian Fields and I-610. This is a reminder that any thunderstorm with summer heat can become strong or severe. ...All day heating into the mid 90's and an outflow boundary from thunderstorms in Mississippi came across the lake late in the afternoon and sparked intense thunderstorms on the southshore. Some wind damage reported in Metairie around I-10 and Bonnabel and around Williams Blvd. in Kenner. Hail was reported as well. A severe thunderstorm warning for Orleans and St Bernard parishes until 8pm has been issued. ...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for the Mississippi counties in and around McComb and north of that area until 8pm. No Southeast Louisiana parishes are in the watch area. There may be strong thunderstorms in Washington and northern Tangipahoa parishes today. All of Southeast Louisiana has about a 40% chance for thunderstorms until around sunset. Tropical Storm Beryl is still the only system of concern in the tropics. It is... The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Tropical Depression #2 to Beryl. Not a threat to the Gulf of Mexico. The 4pm advisory has it as T.D. #2, but data after the advisory was issued indicated it has been upgraded. It won't be reflected until the 7pm intermediate advisory. Beryl will skirt the eastern seaboard before moving out to sea. ...Last year we had 5 systems in the month of July, including Hurricane Cindy which came across Southeast Louisiana. We also had Hurricanes Dennis and Emily then Tropical Storms Franklin and Gert. A very busy July last year. Today, we have only the 2nd tropical depression of the season off the coast of North Carolina. This system may become Tropical Storm Beryl later today or on Wednesday. There is another very strong tropical wave that came... I can't seem to keep anything other than a summer forecast for this week. About a 40% chance for afternoon thunderstorms. Any one day, the coverage may be higher or lower, but daily thunderstorms will be around. A reminder that with the heat of the summer, any thunderstorm can become strong and produce street flooding, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and small hail. You won't hear us say in every weathercasts that some of the thunderstorm... Our rain chances this weekend will be close to normal. The upper low is moving inland in Northern Mexico, but we will still have enough moisture over the weekend for a few afternoon thunderstorms, maybe less coverage on Sunday than Saturday. No tropical activity expected over the next 2-3 days, but we will continue to watch the wave in the easter Caribbean. A call from a viewer this afternoon described a ring around the sun.... Look for higher rain chances Friday. As the upper low continues into Texas Saturday and Sunday, look for rain chances to slowly taper down. In the tropics, things are still quiet, but not an indication that the rest of the season won't be active. The peak of the hurricane season is still to come. Late August through mid September is the most active time. I saw a great vanity plate on my in to work today and it is good advice, EVACU... After a brief break with mostly dry weather, our rain chances will be going up again. The upper low moving west across the central Gulf of Mexico will allow moisture to increase again over the area at all levels of the atmosphere. Highest rain chances will be on Friday and Saturday.
