Pulling Out A Decent Day To Wrap Up French Quarter Fest

12:47 PM Sun, Apr 19, 2009 |
Jonathan Myers

As a cold front continues its progress through the area, Tornado Watches (now dropped) were hoisted for the Mississippi counties, but generally we'll keep only a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the forecast for our Sunday afternoon. With any severe potential well north and east of our area, the vast majority of the time across the metro will be dry and any rain should really be of pop-up, quick-moving nature. With peek-a-boo sunshi...

Today, rain is at 30%. I think there will be some small afternoon showers around, hopefully nothing too heavy or too long. There will also be some showers around on Saturday, a...

A Wet Easter?

2:00 PM Thu, Apr 09, 2009 |
Jonathan Myers

Although we're all pulling for a sunny Easter Sunday, it looks like a cold front may have different ideas about that. As our next cold front moves through late this week, it will have a tough time scouring all of the available moisture well out into the Gulf and away from us. This means plenty of moisture will be at the ready just off the coast as the next cold front approaches on Easter Sunday. The speed of the front will determine when th...

Today Dr. Gray released his updated tropical season numbers, and it looks like some good news: he lowered his forecasted number of storms.

In December, he forecasted 14 named storms, 7 becoming hurricanes, and 3 of those becoming major (CAT 3-5) hurricanes.

Today, he lowered those numbers to 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes and 2 intense hurricanes.

He attributed this to a transitioning of La Nina in the Pacific to a wea...
