An Ozone Action Day continues through the rest of the afternoon across southeastern Louisiana. Be sure to try to reduce your emissions of pollutants for the remainder of today, including unnecessary driving. The amount of ground-level ozone remains high today and could cause problems for those with compromised respiratory systems. If you do have a respiratory ailment, be sure to spend as much time as possible indoors this afternoon and reduce any strenuous activity. On another note, the tropics remain relatively active this afternoon with three tropical waves and Bertha still around in the Atlantic. Two of our three waves appear that they will not develop. The third wave, though, which is approaching the Windward Islands (currently 225 miles east of the islands), is being investigated by Hurricane Hunter aircraft early this afternoon. If a closed circulation is found, this could end up our third tropical depression of the season within the next day. Bertha continues to slowly move away from any landmasses, slugging east at about 3 mph into the open waters of the Atlantic. It still contains winds of 70 mph, making it a strong tropical storm, and it is expected to maintain tropical storm status into the weekend. |
