Although Tropical Storm Dolly continues to move over the warm southern Gulf of Mexico and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall midweek, all computer model tracks, as well as the official forecast cone issued by the National Hurricane Center, continue to point to a landfall extreme Southern Texas and Northern Mexico. At this time, it appears to be no direct threat to us here in Louisiana. With that said, it is possible we could experience minor fringe effects of the storm as it passes well south, including high, rough surf, breezy conditions, and somewhat of an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity. The latest stats on Dolly pin the storm just to the northwest of Cancun, Mexico, just north of the Yucatan Peninsula. The storm currently has winds of 50 mph and is capable of producing several inches of rain before leaving the vicinity of southern Mexico. Tropical Storm Cristobal continues to climb northward off the Carolinas and East Coast as a 65 mph tropical storm, generally making its way deeper into the Atlantic waters through the end of the week, after providing rough surf to the East Coast and perhaps taking a hit on Newfoundland, Canada. |
