Here's the good news. A cold front is approaching this Jazz Fest weekend. That means Sunday could be rain free and less humid. The bad news: Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon could be wet once again. (Here's a picture from last Saturday's flooding rain event. Photo Courtesy Dave Martin, Associated Press)
How much rain will we measure this weekend? Current computer models project about a half inch to 2" of rain total. Some areas could see more, but it doesn't look like a repeat of last week's soaker.
The key difference this weekend is the front. Last weekend, on Saturday, a frontal system approached, and then remained stationary to the North of us on Saturday. With that frontal boundary in place, moisture continue to push in from the the South, creating a recipe for thunderstorm after thunderstorm to form over SE Lousiana. This weekend, as the cold front approaches, it is not expected to become stationary, and create that "training" effect. You definitely need the umbrella, and rain gear. Scattered thunderstorms will develop across the area on Friday afternoon. And some heavy thunderstorms could develop ahead of the front Saturday afternoon.
