Several viewers have called in today regarding the rainbow around the sun they've observed. We've had some high clouds build in across the area. With a dry atmosphere in place, and then the position of the high clouds, the rays of the sun are bent by the ice crystals in the high clouds and get refocused into a rainbow around the sun. At night when you see these high cirrus clouds, it causes a phenomenon called a "ring around the moon".
