A Better Forecast for Jazz Fest

6:20 AM Tue, Apr 29, 2008 |

It doesn't look like the entire 4 days of the last weekend of Jazz Fest will be as wet as previously thought. Good news! Rain chances stay at 50% for Friday afternoon and night, with rain lingering through Saturday at noon. So the first part of Saturday may be damp, but by the afternoon, skies should be clearing. Isolated thunderstorms continue to develop along coastal parishes this afternoon. These will head in the general direction of the metro area over the next several hours. However, the heavy thunderstorms off the coast will be moving in late tonight into tomorrow.

Most of the area, both the southshore and the northshore will see rain tonight. The question is if it will clear out in time for the Monday morning commute.

I'll have m...

Heavy Rains Pummel the Area

10:49 PM Sat, Apr 26, 2008 |

A stationary frontal boundary combined with a rich layer of moisture triggered round after round of rain and thunderstorms Saturday. One of our WeatherBug locations on the westbank recorded 8.32 inches of rain and counting... that frontal boundary will make it's move into the forecast region on Sunday, which could trigger another round of heavy thunderstorms Sunday night. We will be monitoring the situation in the Channel 4 Weather office Sun...

Tomorrow, we do expect some heavy thunderstorms to move in ahead of a frontal system. >> Continue reading: Brief, But Heavy Showers

Partial Sun & Summery Through Jazz Fest!

7:29 AM Tue, Apr 22, 2008 |

As fair-weather high pressure beats northern cold fronts away, expect some sunshine over the next few days the establishment of a summery pattern. This means an outside chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms this and tomorrow afternoon and another chance of garden variety storms this weekend for Jazz Fest. It's Not The Heat, It's The Humidity!

11:51 AM Mon, Apr 21, 2008 |
Jonathan Myers

With highs touching the 80-degree-mark this weekend, it certainly was warm, but it did not feel at all oppressive. Why can 80° sometimes feel pleasant, while other times it can feel miserable? It all has to do with the humidity, and moreover the dewpoint. The dewpoint is the measure of moisture in the air. The higher the dewpoint, the higher the moisture content of the air, and the less efficient your body is in cooling itself off. A good...

Drier... not Cooler Air Moves In

12:33 PM Sat, Apr 19, 2008 |
Dawn Brown

Still a warm day across SE Lousiana, after a cold front moved through the forecast area. The frontal system that passed through yesterday is more often called a dry front as the dewpoint temperature, (which measure the amount of moisture in the air), has dropped, but actual afternoon high temperatures will remain about the same today. The cold air remains trapped to our north. Dewpoints will be in the 40s to low 50s today. Definitely a gorgeou...

Warmer Temperatures & Humidity On The Way

6:13 PM Wed, Apr 16, 2008 |
Jonathan Myers

After a cool and comfortably dry stretch of days, warmer temperatures into the middle and upper 70's, with still comfortably humidity levels, will be moving in under partial sunshine for Thursday. Warmer numbers will stay, but with increased humidity, for Friday as a cold front approaches, but we'll also introduce the chance of showers and thunderstorms by then. Saturday and Sunday, humidity should lower and sun should return but temperature...

Laura Buchtel

A very unseasonably cool airmass has settled over the deep South. This morning, temperatures were in the low 40s to near 50 degrees, and we will be even colder tomorrow morning. If you are on the Northshore, protect your special plants or crops from possible frost tonight. Lows are expected to dip to near freezing by Tuesday morning. The Timing of the Storms

A lot of important events and festivals this weekend. The good news is the forecast this weekend lookS great -- once we get past Friday. This means you could have a heavy thunderstorm develop in your neighborhood... but 10 miles down the road... you'll be fine. However, around 7pm tonight, it looks like the activity could get a little heavier as...
