January 2008 ArchivesJupiter and Venus will appear almost as one in the night sky on Friday February 1st before dawn. They are the brightest objects in the sky, so they will not be had to miss! Over the past few days, both planets have been appearing to come closer and closer together and by the 1st will look nearly like one point of light. Look in the Southeast sky before dawn. ...A line of storms is moving through SE LA, and look for periods of rumbles and a brief heavy downpour. The line will quickly move east, bringing gusty winds and colder air behind it. ...Starting off between 20 and 25 degrees warmer on this Tuesday morning compared to Monday morning. Good news is... no fog outside this morning. We'll see a mixture of sun and clouds today... windy conditions in advance of a front that will push through tonight into Wednesday. Clearing, windy and cold in the overnight hours. Mostly clear on Wednesday with a high in the mid 50s. We're watching a storm that is approaching Thursday... We are enjoying a brief break today with some sunshine and milder temperatures. The week ahead will be bringing some cooler weather as well as a chance for rain. ...Clear, dry skies led overnight temperatures to dip to below freezing in some northshore locations in the overnight hours. With tidal lakes and coastal waters significantly warmer than temperatures, low clouds and patchy dense fog developed this morning across the area. With a heavy cloud bank piling up moisture in and around Lake Pontchartrain, we are getting reports of moderate mist and drizzle across the area. This will continue through the mid-afternoon Saturday. A stationary boundary remains across SE Louisiana. Tonight, expect the cloud cover to begin to break up as a strong high pressure stabilizes the atmosphere and allows for some sinking air. This will lead to more sunshine on Sunday and temperature... As of 8pm, Rain over the southshore should start tapering off. Rain may continue north of the lake for a few more hours. Chilly overnight lows for Saturday morning in the 40s. Rain may still be around through the morning hours and ending around noon Saturday. Cool highs in the mid 50s in the afternoon and drier. Dry and chilly for the evening parades. Rain is beginning to taper off across the Southshore and Metro New Orleans area. Look for some patchy drizzle or light rain this afternoon, with mostly cloudy skies tonight. We will stay chilly in the upper 40s all afternoon. ...What an all around nasty day! Rain set up across Louisiana overnight, and more will be streaming across today. Look for 1-3" area wide, with some isolated spots along the coast seeing 4". We are under a flash flood watch for the potential for flooding, although most of the pumps should be able to keep up with the rainfall. The usual low spots around the city may have a little water by the afternoon. We are also under a Wind Advisory for winds ...
