Overcast skies and cool temperatures for your Saturday forecast. Afternoon highs will struggle to reach 60 degrees. The chance of showers increases this evening to 80 percent across the area... the southshore has the best chance for locally heavy rainfall and strong winds from thunderstorms. You can feel the temperatures dropping outside... a cool northerly wind is bringing colder air into the region. While temperatures topped out in the upper 70s, they've already dropped 20 degrees... and will fall about ten more degrees tonight before bottoming out in the 40s across the area.

As of 1pm... the tornado watch has been cancelled for all of SE Louisiana and Southern Mississippi... with the exception of coastal waters.
A line of thunderstorms ahead of a cold front is moving rapidly east. The Northshore and Southshore are both under a tornado watch until 6pm this evening. Storms have been firing up ahead of a cold front that is now around Baton Rouge. Ring Around the Moon

Sky viewers last night saw a halo or ring around the moon. What causes the ring? Upper level clouds are made up of ice crystals. These crystals bend light reflected from the moon. (We see the moon as reflected sunlight.) When the ice crystals are bent, it appears as a halo or ring around the moon. One Tormado warning issued today for Orleans parish. Wind damage reported in the Bywater area. Pinpoint Doppler estimated some winds in excess of 60-80 mph with the thunderstorms that moved through.

Clearing of the skies overnight with 50s for lows and patches of fog. Mild and dry for Friday with highs in the mid 70s.

The Tornado watch is being chipped away as of 2pm. Most of the area still under the watch until 4pm. Street flooding possible during the 2-4pm time frame as heavier showers & thunderstorms move across the area. Strong gusty winds also possible.

A weak cold front moved through the area yesterday cooling temperatures slightly overnight. We won't see any more near record highs... but it won't be dramatically cool this Friday. The front at 3pm is between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. A few showers are out there. It will be slightly cooler tonight with lows in the 50s, but still a 20% chance for light rain or drizzle.

We're seeing a few showers today across the area, expect light rain showers to continue off and on throughout the afternoon and evening ahead of a cold front that will move through SE Lousiana overnight. Sub Tropical Storm Olga Forms

At 9pm, Sub Tropical Storm Olga is located at 18.5N 65.3W or 55 miles east of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Olga is moving west at 15 mph with sustained winds of 40 mph. Some strengthening is still possible, but Olga is expected to become disorganized on Wednesday in the central Caribbean Sea. Olga is no threat to us along the Gulf Coast.

Well, just as we are seeing temperatures outside of the norm for this time of the year, there is an unexpected development in the tropics. The National Hurricane Center is watching an area of disturbed weather East of Puerto Rico. There is a slight chance for development, but no threat to our area.

A record high was tied Sunday at Armstrong Int'l at 82 degrees. Baton Rouge also tied a record high at 83 degrees. Isolated showers for Sunday will die out after sunset.

Fog could again form in some areas overnight with lows in the 60s and rain chance at 20%. Record highs again for Monday possible. Records are 81 at Kenner and 82 at Audubon. A 20% chance for rain continues on Monday.

We missed the record highs on Saturday by one at the Airport and by 2 at Audubon. Today we will be close again with a high of about 81. Records today 82 at the Airport and 83 at Audubon. It will remain humid for this time of year with a 20% chance for a shower.

Fog may again develop overnight tonight/Monday morning with near record highs again on Monday and a 20% chance for a shower.

High pressure over the southeastern United States will block any cold air trying to move our way over the next five days. A large trough over the western United States is creating chilly conditions for midwestern states over the next few days before it finally starts making the trek east... bring a cold front into Louisiana on Thursday. FREEZE WARNING UNTIL 9AM TUESDAY

Freeze warning tonight north of the lake and MS counties. Temperatures are expected to drop to around 32 degrees so protect plants, pets, and people north of the lake. South of the lake lows will be in the upper 30s to low 40s, no freeze expected south of the lake.

Well, it will seem cold Monday with a high of 62 and a cold northerly wind in comparison to the possible 83 degree mark that we will hit at New Orleans International Airport today. We've already tied the record set in 1982 of 82 degrees. Just to give you an idea of the temperature drop behind this front.
