Gulf Moisture Packing a Punch

Tropical moisture sent northward into the central Gulf this morning and afternoon is dumping heavy rain on the southshore, and especially the metro area. Expect bands of heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon. As of 1pm, downtown Slidell was starting to see some heavy activity as well.

Looking at the latest infrared satellite imagery, you can see the increased activity moving onshore in SE Lousiana. As of 1pm, parts of the metro area have received almost 3 inches of rain---our Weather Bug site at New Orleans City Hall had 2.77" by 1pm, and more rain is falling. We've had some reports of flooding in the Carrollton neighborhood. The thunderstorm located over the metro area during the lunch hour is losing strength at this point, so expect to see some clearing by mid afternoon. However, there could be another round in the late afternoon because of the moisture continuing to stream into the region.
