Cool Air!

It's that time of year when a cold front is actually a cold front. Fronts are boundaries at the surface between two different air masses. During the summer, these boundaries are usually between drier continental air and warm, moist tropical air. But, now... cooler air from Canada is making its way into the Southern United States.

Take a look at this temperature contour map of the United States. (Read the legend at the bottom for the range of temperatures for your area) You can see portions of the Dakotas and Upper Midwest are getting most of the colder air today... but it's trying to make its way into the eastern half of the country including SE Lousiana and Mississippi. And, it's only going to get better over the next several days. Models show this cooler air will start to move east Sunday and will be replaced by warmer, more humid air for the beginning of the workweek.
