October 2007 ArchivesIt looks like the forecast tonight is a treat... with partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures. With dewpoints rising to the mid 60s, temperatures won't drop off quite as quickly across the area... allowing for more comfortable temperatures during the evening and overnight hours. Halloween evening will see temperatures fall from the 70s to the 60s with still a 10% chance until 8pm. Tropical Storm Noel poses no threat to us in the Gulf of Mexico. Another shot of drier air will come through on Thursday with a front. 10% chance for Thursday also... Lows next few days not as chilly. Lows will be mostly in the 50s and 60s. Highs in the 70s. A front is expected on Thursday to bring back a nice air mass over us. We may get a bit more muggy for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but it won't be that bad. The 14th named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed in the Caribbean Sea, south of Haiti. The storm is expected to move on a WNW track toward Cuba over the next several days before taking a Northeasterly turn toward the Bahamas and open Atlantic. Because of a strong westerly pattern over the continental United States... the storm is not expected to affect the Gulf Coast. For more information... go to our Hurricane Page. ...Tropical Depression # 16 has fromed in the SE Caribbean Sea, south of Hispaniola. The current path has this storm strengthening to Tropical Storm Noel before making landfall near Cuba on Tuesday. After this, upper level winds are expected to turn the storm toward the Northeast, a common occurence with storms that form in the Caribbean at this time of year. However, this year, daylight saving time has been extended due to the 2005 Energy Policy Act. So, you have to wait next week, November 3rd and 4th to change the clocks back. ...

We are missing out on the rain to our east today...but that's not such a bad thing. Not to bad today, but it'll be better for Thursday & Friday. Dewpoints in the mid 60s this afternoon and they will be lower for Thursday and Friday meaning the air will be drier and feel even better than today. No rain in sight though the weekend. Low temperatures will be in the 50s north of the lake tonight, Friday morning, and Saturday morning. South of the lake 60s for the most part. Highs in the mid 80s today, lower 8... It's that time of year when a cold front is actually a cold front. Fronts are boundaries at the surface between two different air masses. During the summer, these boundaries are usually between drier continental air and warm, moist tropical air. But, now... cooler air from Canada is making its way into the Southern United States. ...

Expect bands of heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon. As of 1pm, downtown Slidell was starting to see some heavy activity as well. ...A strong cold front is bisecting the United States in half this morning. Heavy rain is falling across the Upper Midwest. We don't expect that much rainfall out of the front. Rather, our thunderstorm development this afternoon is due to a typical summertime pattern. ...
