Thunderstorms in Metro Area

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms have developed across the metro area. Expect another hour of showers near River Ridge and Harahan, before the storms move off to the northwest. Click on blog for more on showers and Dean...

We also have a shower showing up in Lake Pontchartrain as well as parts of central Plaquemines near Myrtle Grove and on the northshore as well. These showers will generally drift off to the north and the west over the next hour.

Hurricane Dean continues to move toward the WNW at about 18 miles per hour. Current position: 16.1 N, 70.2 W, about 455 miles ESE of Jamaica. Minimal central pressure of 930 mb. No big changes in track or thinking from the National Hurricane Center this afternoon as most of the tropical models continue Dean on a WNW track toward the Yucatan Peninsula, then toward the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico and into Mexico by the middle to end of next week.
