Strong Storms... Heat Advisory

A line of thunderstorms is moving into Washington and St. Tammany parishes as of 4pm...

The line developed in Southern Mississippi, moving SW at about 10 miles per hour. Some of the thunderstorms are producing locally heavy rainfall, dangerous lightning, and gusty winds. Expect this line to continue toward the southwest... into downtown Slidell before 5pm.

With actual temperatures expected in the 90-95 range, and high humidity, the heat indices could be between 100-105. High humidity not only transfers heat to the skin through moisture, but it also prevents sweat from escaping from your skin, so the body can't cool down very well. When a heat advisory is issued, you need to take it easy, drink plenty of water, or other non-caffeinated, non-alcoholic beverage, and stay in the air-conditioning or shade. You may also want to check on elderly relatives or neighbors who are more subject to the effects of heat.
