Less than 24 hours after being named, Barry has been downgraded to a tropical depression. Click on blog for more. As Barry moved inland across Tampa Bay, the storm's maximum sustained winds lessened to 35 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds of 39 mph or more are needed for a storm to be classified as a tropical storm. Barry is providing much needed rainfall for Florida today but also the possibility of severe weather. A tornado watch is still in effect for most of central Florida. The National Hurricane Center named Barry late yesterday after hurricane hunter aircraft measured winds around 45 miles per hour. For more info... go to the hurricane section of our website. As far as our weather is concerned. We will see a few clouds today, but warm and humid conditions will prevail for most of the weekend. A small (10 percent) chance of showers this afternoon.
