At 8pm at line of strong thunderstorms with heavy rain extends from New Roads to New Iberia. The rain is well East of Louisiana now, and sunshine has taken over. The front will be passing through this afternoon, so less humid and slightly cooler air will be in place for tonight, lows back in the 50s. Enjoy a nice tranquil stretch of weather for the next few days...highs near 80 and no rain through early next week. ...An upper level low is tracking across the South today, and some rain and a few thunderstorms have moved into Southeastern LA this morning. Look for scattered showers through the morning commute...both North and South of the lake. These rain chances will remain through midday, then we'll see clearing this afternoon, even some blue skies later on. This is really the only rain we'll see for awhile, as high pressure and tranquil conditions...
Nice dry stretch of weather Thursday through weekend. Laura Buchte... There is a definite chill in the air this morning! Lows will be in the 40s across the metro area, with some 30s North of the lake. Even with the cold weather this morning, we'll warm up this afternoon, into the low 70s. Tonight won't be as cold, with winds out of the southwest, we should stay in the 40s and 50s areawide. Our afternoon temperatures will bump up a few degrees each day, until we get to the low 80s by next weekend. <...With high pressure building over Louisiana overnight, it will be a chilly one for two reasons. A few areas MAY see some frost, if winds become calm overnight. It's not a ... SUNNY...WINDY...COOL... Another beautiful spring day today! It is a bit windy today, and certainly cooler, but the sunshine is helping to warm things up this afternoon. Highs today will be in the mid 60s. Very dry air is blowing in from the North, and rain chances are slim today and the next couple of days. Look for the wind to die down tonight, and we'll warm up a little tomorrow afternoon too. ...All of the strong storms have moved from Louisiana into south Miss. A thin line of showers has redeveloped between Baton Rouge and New Orleans associated with a strong cold front. This cold front will move through this evening, cooling temperatures along with an increase in winds. We will look for just a few lingering showers this evening; otherwise clearing skies overnight. ...As of 1pm, showers and storms continue to move into the metro area with locally heavy downpours. Much of St. Tammany is see some strong storms, with the primary concern being heavy rain and lightening. The severe weather threat is diminishing, with much of the rain ending from 2-4pm from west to east. ...The latest as of around 9am.........strong storms continue to move through parts of St. Helena, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes, and Pike and Walthall counties in Mississippi. Expect gusty winds, heavy rain near 1-3" in isolated areas, and plenty of lightening. Many of these storms are moving NE near 20-25mph, and will conintue moving into Miss. over the next few hours. On the south shore, other than patchy light rain/dr... A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Northshore until 1pm this afternoon. A cluster of thunderstorms around the Baton Rouge area has the potential for some gusty winds and small hail. Keep an eye on the weather through the midday hour, and check back with wwltv.com for updates through the afternoon. ...Looking at things early this morning, there is actually good news for those who don't want strong storms around today. The storms are still coming, but they aren't as strong as they could have been this morning. Right now there is a broken line of storms around the Baton Rouge area, and these storms will likely affect the Northshore in another 2 hours. The tornado watch has not been extended into SE LA, and there are no warnings with this line... Models continue to show a strong front moving through the Southeast over the weekend. On satellite this afternoon, you can already see storms firing up around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. More storms will develop overnight around the ARK/LA/TX region, and then merge into a line of storms across Louisiana. Right now, it looks like a line of storms will come through sometime between 7am and 4pm tomorrow. We may see some individual storms out ahead... A front is progressing through Gulf coast this afternoon. We might see a chance for a shower until evening, then that will come to an end. Overnight, the skies will clear, and it will feel cooler outside. Temperatures will fall into the 50s tonight. Tomorrow we'll see bright sunshine, less humidity, and light north winds. Most of the stronger storms have remained along the coast and offshore. Look for a 50% chance overnight, and a 70% chance through the morning tomorrow. We'll likely see some rain showers, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms too. Looking at the latest satellite imagery... we're starting to see clearing skies to our west. The light to moderate rainfall that fell across the area overnight continues to move across the southern parishes... but some of the northern parishes and the metro area may see some sunshine this afternoon. Temperatures will still be on the chilly side, but winds have calmed down... so the afternoon high of 52 will feel like 52. As of ... As cold air continues to move into the region, a mix of sleet and or snow is possible in some northern parishes close to the Mississippi State line. A freeze warning is in effect for Southern Mississippi parishes and Louisiana parishes including Washington, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and St. Helena. Earlier today, sleet fell across portions of the southshore even as temperatures remained in the 40s and low 50s. Sleet is ... With a band of precipitation moving in at around 2pm, we are getting reports of light sleet across the southshore. Reports have been coming in from Norco, Kenner, Metairie and right here outside WWL studios in the French Quarter. Sleet is a form of frozen precipitation. It can occur two ways. Today it looks as though rain in the middle levels of the atmosphere may have changed over to sleet through evaporational cooling as it fell thr... In his last post, Chief Meteorologist Carl Arredondo mentioned the best time to plant to avoid a freeze is the week AFTER Easter. According to records at Armstrong International Airport, the latest freeze on record is April 8, 1971. Coupled with that, we are expecting rain to move in Saturday... You may have heard me mentionn on the air a few times that it is best to wait until after Easter to plant. Historically, we can have a freeze as late as the 1st week in April. The latest freeze was April 8th, 1971 at Armstrong Int'l Airport. Now I'm not expecting a freeze on the southshore, but north of the lake will see 30's over the weekend, but on Monday morning there may be frost or even a light freeze in some spots. Temperature... With today's front passing through, you can feel the difference already in the wind, temperatures, and humidity levels. For the next few nights north of the lake, it will be in the 40's and south of the lake in the 50's then 40's. Light jackets and sweaters will need to be taken out again. Highs in the 60's through Saturday. Rain chances also go up some on Saturday and then we may have a wet Easter Sunday and chilly. Temperatures o... Overnight, a line of storms has progressed South, and is stretching from Hattiesburg to Alexandria. These showers and storms are moving south, and may be affecting McComb through the morning hours. If this line holds together, we may see some rain on the northshore through the morning hours, and then south of the lake around noon. Our rain chances still stand at 30% for today, with no watches or warnings posted at this time. ... |
