Some parts of the metro area could reach up to a half an inch of rain. Lingering showers will last through the evening and in the overnight hours as a frontal system continues to move closer to SE Lousiana. We may see a little bit of a break late Sunday into Monday. We've bumped up the chance of showers to 50% for the afternoon... increasing to a 70% chance overnight Saturday night into Sunday morning. Lots of moisture will help feed into a a large frontal system approaching from SW Lousiana. The tail end of the front will slowly drag across SE Lousiana later tonight into Sunday providing a chance of showers through the weeken... Good morning everyone...looks like another warm one in store for us today. More 80s by the afternoon...and muggy too. This weekend, a front will track close to the area, and will provide a little instability for some showers and storms. Looks like the best chance will be Saturday night and into Sunday, but the chance right now stands at about 50%. The front will not move South, though, so the warm and muggy weather will be her... It still looks like there will be some rain around over the weekend. More so on Sunday than Saturday. They will be spotty on Saturday and scattered on Sunday. Highs will be around 80 on Saturday with breezy conditions and upper 70's on Sunday. ...Thursday and Friday will be about the same with rain chances slim. After today, rain chances slim to none for Wednesday & Thursday. Friday will have a 20% chance. Then on Saturday a stronger storm system will move through and at least a 60% chance for showers or thunderstorms..some may be strong. ...
Here it is, 4 am and it is still in the mid 60s outside...and dewpoints are right around 60. So, we're seeing a little fog developing out there this morning. Be careful driving around, especially near water. It will be unseasonably warm again today...temps maxing out around 80. With the daytime heating, an isolated shower is not out of the question, but it's not likely. ...If you recall, we were going into this past winter with an El Nino going on. El Nino is the warmer than normal Pacific waters along the equator. Normally that kind of pattern gives us a wetter and cooler winter in the south and in Louisiana. Here are the numbers... January The forecast really won't change much over the next couple of days...we are under a ridge of high pressure, so expect the warmer than normal temps to continue. There have been a few waves of moisture riding through Louisiana, so rain chances will continue to be around 10% for an isolated shower through the weekend. The main line of thunderstorms is out to the east, affecting mainly the Gulf and the Mississippi coast. After a line of storms moved through this morning, we have seen a break in the rough weather. A few showers are still possible this afternoon, but the next round of potential severe weather is still out in the Gulf. Having a piece of equipment to alert you of weather advisories, such as a NOAA Weather Radio, a cell phone that is subscribed to weather alerts, or a computer program that offers alerts, is good way to stay safe. After talking yesterday about the differences in Watches and Warnings, now it's time to address the issue of receiving these weather advisories in a timely manner. ...We talked yesterday about severe weather occuring more frequently during the late winter months lasting through the spring months. I believe the key to our reacting during severe weather is understanding the terminology that we often talk about. Cold air filtering in behind a front will create temperatures in the mid 30s tonight on the northshore, 40s on the southshore. Also, the breeze is picking up behind the front, so it will feel colder as well. Expect wind chills in the 40s tomorrow with a strong NW breeze up to 15 miles...
85% of the moon will be in the earth's shadow. ...It has been cooler today, and those pesky clouds are just now starting to break up a little bit on the southshore. Tonight will be mostly clear, and chilly! Pull out those blankets again: lows in the 30s north of the lake! (No frost or freeze issues though) Saturday will be mostly cloudy, but only a 10% chance of a shower as another front moves through. That front will clear us out Sunday, but keep us cool, with highs back into the mid... We are still under a TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 6PM. Conditions are still very favorable for storms developing into the afternoon. Right now, storms are beginning to develop on the north shore from Slidell into parts of Miss. It appears that the greatest risk for severe weather will be on the north shore on into Miss. That doesn't mean though that the south shore will not see severe weather. The watch is for everyone, ... A very strong storm system is moving into the region this morning. A Tornado Watch has already been issued for central and northern Louisiana. We can expect some of these storms to move into our area later today, mainly early to mid afternoon lasting into this evening.
