New Orleans International Airport recorded a record rain of 3.68 inches Saturday. The weather is on track for a good New Year's Eve forecast with good visibilities for fireworks. Grab a light jacket or sweater if you're headed out the door... temperatures will be on the cool side this evening with temperatures around 61 at 7pm, dropping to 55 by midnight. 2007 will begin on a sunny note for SE Louisiana with sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s. Good football weather... both on the field and off! ... The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream advisory for Jefferson and Orleans Parish through 9pm. A band of heavy rainfall could produce an additional 1-2" of rain in the next hour causing flooding in poor drainage areas including the cities of Timberlane... Metairie... Marrero... Harvey... Avondale... New Orleans and New Orleans East. A flash flood watch is also in effect for these areas. ...A tornado watch has been extended until 8pm for SE Lousiana and Southern Mississippi. A slow moving line of thunderstorms moving easterly across the forecast area has been known to produce damaging winds, locally heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning. A flash flood watch is in effect until Sunday morning. Warnings: TORNADO WARNING FOR TANGIPAHOA PARISH A line of storms was visible this morning around Baton Rouge, with a few tornado warnings associated with it. As this front slowly moves through SE LA, the threat for damaging winds and heavy rain will increase for the metro area. We could see 2-4" of rain when the storms move over the area. ... As of 12am, storms were pushing North across Lafayette and Baton Rouge. Some of the storms had winds up to 50 mph. Heavy rain is also a threat, with some training of the cells. This means that the storm cells set up one behind the other, moving over the same areas. When this happens, you can get excessive rainfall amounts. Because of this potential, a flash flood watch has been posted for the Northshore until Sunday morning. I'll try ... This Friday afternoon has been relatively calm...the powerful storm system is still west of Louisiana. That will change overnight, as the front moves this way. Storms will develop into the early morning hours, with a chance some could be strong to severe. Storms will be a possibility all day Saturday, until the front moves through Sat night. Clouds return tonight with small chance for rain. An area of low pressure coming from the NW Gulf of Mexico will spread rain..some heavy back into the area. Rain expected Christmas Eve and tapering off Christmas morning. Wind... We're seeing more heavy rain in the overnight hours... but it looks like most of the heavy activity may clear out in time for the Friday morning commute. Heavy showers are moving through the New Orleans metro area as of 2am... and will continue to provide heavy downpours over the metro area for the next hour before moving toward the Northeast. A Severe T'Storm Watch is in effect until 10pm for the following parishes Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche, Livingston, St Helena, St James, St John, Terrebonne, and areas to the west including the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas. ...Our weather pattern continues to change, with a rainy pattern setting up through Friday, and again on Sunday for Christmas Eve. A steady rain will continue through much of today, with an additional 2-4" by this evening, and additional heavy rain into Friday morning. A change in the weather pattern will spell rain chances, colder weather, and more wind the latter part of the week into the Holiday Weekend and on Christmas Day. See the Detailed Foreca... Dense fog advisory again until 10am Tuesday morning. Take it slow and use the low beams. Fog may be a problem Wednesday morning as well. Wednesday's forecast has a 20% chance for a shower. That rain chance increases to 40% on Thursday. A front on Friday will bring a 70% chance for thunderstorms and bring a chance in the weather pattern. As fog continues to reduce visibilities across SE Lousiana and the coastal areas, the National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory for these areas. Visibilities are already reduced across the area tonight as a result of fog. No advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service for SE Louisiana yet, however dense fog could be a problem for the Monday morning commute.
