Clouds and Ghosts Floating In

The clouds have been streaming in from the west and southwest today. This will continue tonight, with a 10% chance for a shower. On Halloween, there may be some ghosts and spirits floating in too.......

It's time to turn back the clock one hour tonight, to observe daylight saving time.

In 2007, federal law changes the dates we set our clocks forward and back in the hopes of conserving energy. Daylight saving time will begin on the second Sunday in March, instead of the first Sunday in April. The skies have calmed down this afternoon, and as of 3:30pm, the rain had exited most of SE LA except for extreme southern Plaquemines parish. A tornado watch is in effect for SE Louisiana until noon today. Expect strong winds... hail... lightning and the possiblity of tornadoes.

People living in trailers are urged to move to a sturdier structure when severe thunderstorms approach.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for St. Helena Parish including the city of Greensburg.... moving northeast at about 40 miles per hour until 6 am.

Light rain has begun falling north of Lake Ponchartrain. Livingston,Tangipahoa, Washington and St. Tammany parishes are seeing the most right now. Look for rainfall totals up to 0.50" through the afternoon, with the heaviest rain staying north in Southern Mississippi.

The residual moisture from a Pacific Ocean tropical storm is travelling over Texas and creating cloudy skies for us today. As the moisture increases over the next few days, we see the clouds, and then eventually the rain by Friday. All of this is ahead of a cold front set to move through late in the day Friday. Cold Weather = New Record

A little cold snap last night left us with a new record low for Armstrong Int'l Airport.
The record before this morning was 48 in 1996. This morning, we reached 46 degrees. The record at Audubon Park was not compromised...we only got down to 50 there.

Look for warmer weather today and tomorrow, with Thursday and Friday being rather rainy. Nice cool weather joins us again for the weekend.

Chilly Start Gives Way to Warmer Week Ahead.....

Chilly temperatures will make for a very fall-like day ahead, with highs staying in the 60's. Overnight, near record lows possible tonight, with temperatures ranging from the upper 30's north to upper 40's south of the lake.

For the rest of the week, temperatures will moderate into the 70's Tuesday and Wednesday, with another system moving through Thursday producing showers and storms Thursday afternoon.

Winds will pick up this afternoon, making for a chilly night. The skies will begin to clear this afternoon, but we'll continue to see high level clouds spilling in with that surface high pressure system.

But, Monday and Tuesday night, you'll really feel those chilly October weather. Temps will be in the 40's north of the lake Monday, Tuesday and even possibly Wednesday at locations north of the lake.

Light to moderate rainfall continues to move through parts of the metro area and coastal parishes. There is another round of showers and thunderstorms moving through St. Helena, Livingston, Tangipahoa and parts of St. Tammany parishes... although most of the heavy rain is to the north and west.

Well it looks like rain chances go up on Saturday now. A warm front will move back north and may bring a 20% chance for a morning shower along the coast and 50% chance for scattered showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon & evening. Highs will be in the upper 70's.

Saturday night/early Sunday morning will bring our next front with a 60% chance for showers or thunderstorms..some may be heavy.

Sunday will see a 50%...

The line of thunderstorms has cleared the Mississippi Coast and extends east of Delacroix to Myrtle Grove to Cut Off to near Cocodrie. No other severe weather has been reported since the wind damage in Pearl River county around mid day.

A 2pm, the line of thunderstorms has cleared the northshore and is located in New Orleans to to Houma. The Tornado watch is no longer in effect north of the lake. There may still be brief heavy rain and strong gusty winds from New Orleans to the coast for the next hour.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued from Jackson county MS eastward through Alabama.

A Few Strong Storms

A couple of strong storms have developed today in the river parishes. The most activity is from LaPlace to near Gramercy along I-10. Some heavy rain, gusty winds up to 40 mph, and some localized street flooding is possible.


Another cluster of storms is around the Baton Rouge area, moving Northeast. These storms could also produce rain up to 2" an hour.

Expect changes to continue in our weather leading into the weekend. Warm and humid conditions today, with some showers around. Storms will begin developing overnight and into Thursday, with strong storms possible with gusty winds and heavy rain.

Right now... at about 1pm on Sunday... light to moderate rain has already started moving in off the coast into Terrebonne, Lafourche, Lower Jefferson and Lower Plaquemines parishes.

Most of the rain today will be light. This evening, expect locally heavy rainfall and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms developing, mainly along coastal areas.

Precipitation totals in the next 24 hours could range from 1/2" to 2.0".

There's a pretty good chance for rain Sunday night as tropical moisture begins to feed into the region from the western Gulf of Mexico.

Your start to Sunday should be nice with partly cloudy skies, lower humidities and temperatures in the 70s. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s.
