At 10am this morning, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake was measured by the US Geological Survey in the Gulf of Mexico. The quake was 329 miles SE of New Orleans and 260 miles WSW of Clearwater, Florida. A magnitude 6.0 earthquake is classified a strong on the Richter scale, a scale to measure the seismic energy released by an earthquake. So far, no reports from the quake which was 6.2 miles in depth, but people from North Carolina to Florida felt tremors. The USGS measured a 5.2 earthquake in this same location on February 10th. Florence strengthened to a category one hurricane overnight. Florence continues on a NW path toward Bermuda, possibly becoming a category two storm over the Northern Atlantic before becoming extratropical. Rain chances continue this Sunday with a 60% chance for the remainder of the afternoon, a 40% chance of rain overnight tonight. We could have some locally heavy rainfall. Monday and Tuesday, the chance of rain continues. Another front passing through Wednesday will bring less humid conditions toward the middle of the week. |
