Mainieri said he remembers a game his dad coached in the JUCO world series. His dad went with his ace in a similar situation... short rest, up a game. The guy threw a gem but the opposing pitcher threw a masterpiece. His dad's team lost the game 2-1. Mainieri remembered how demoralized the team was. They lost the next day. Like they say, those who don't remeber history are doomed to repeat it.
