I've told anyone who will listen... I believed LSU would score big today and win easily. My though process was more centered around big days from Ryan Schimpf and Blake Dean. They have struggled mightily against UT. Paul Mainieri even shook up his lineup to give Dean some better pitches. He replaced Miach Gibbs at the cleanup spot with Sean Ochinko. Ochinko follows up Dean's HBP with a 2-out single. Jared Mitchell (moved up to sixth) the...

Mainieri said he remembers a game his dad coached in the JUCO world series. His dad went with his ace in a similar situation... short rest, up a game. The guy threw a gem but the opposing pitcher threw a masterpiece. His dad's team lost the game 2-1. Mainieri remembered how demoralized the team was. They lost the next day. Like they say, those who don't remeber history are doomed to repeat it.
LSU will be the visiting team in ...

Paul Mainieri, I believe, went out on a limb to start Austin Ross tonight rather than his ace Anthony Ranaudo. Mainieri said he didn't like bringing Ranaudo back on three days rest in this overwhelming heat of Omaha. I don't agree. And won't. Even if LSU wins. Ross starts off the game with five straight balls.
The walk comes around to score. As most leadoff free passes do. The Tigers commit their first error of the CWS and trai...

Those who call Omaha home, say today is one of the hottest days they can remember. Hot and humid. I'm sure those fans from south Louisiana who thought they were getting away from the heat are a little shocked that Omaha can get this muggy. I am. How hot is it? Ran into four students from LSU who told me they had to stop drinking beer and down a few a bottles of water in order to make it to first pitch. That's hot!
Watch how patie...

My first Father's Day started off perfect. A picture on my phone from my wife of my little girl chewing on my Father's Day gift. The caption: "Hurry home before she eats all of your gifts!"
In the media workroom here at Rosenblatt Stadium, Paul Mainieri showed up early this morning. We wished each other a Happy Father's Day. Being the father of two daughters himself, I thought the head coach would enjoy the picture of my daughter...

Arkansas' starting pitcher today is their normal closer. He had one inning against the Tigers this season, striking out the side. He starts off today by striking out the first two batters he faces. Blake Dean doubles, Gibbs brings him home. Tigers strike first.
Today is a defining moment for Anthony Ranaudo. A bad outing to open the CWS, soured his first ever start at Rosenblatt (although an LSU win didn't make it all lemons). To...

It's as much a part of baseball as bunting and bubble gum. Rain delays. And we are in our first one of this CWS. Steady precipitation pelts the tarp at Rosenblatt while the Tigers and Hogs patiently sit and wait. Local radars show this storm should move out quickly, but the delay is still inevitable. Game time WAS 1:08 pm. Now, who knows? Once the rain subsides, the crew will begin taking the tarp off the field. 80 minutes after that, ...

Arkansas' 12-inning win last night over Virginia puts the Hogs up against LSU on Friday. It also put the one Arkansas pitcher that truly frustrated LSU on the shelf for Friday's game.
Dallas Keuchel threw 8 1/3 innings against LSU in the regular season. He allowed just five hits. But he threw the final four innings last night for Dave Van Horne meaning the most he could contribute on Friday would be an inning or two. Keeping the ...
