(NATALBANY)---What began as a traffic stop dealing with a vehicle that allegedly crossed the center line several times led to a foot pursuit and the resulting arrest of two suspects and recovery of crack cocaine, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that 28-year-old Deric J. Foster of Hammond has been charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, driving without a driver's license, and improper lane use. He adds that 29-year-old Tron L. Andrews, also of Hammond, was charged with resisting an officer by flight and on an outstanding failure-to-appear warrant. It began at around 8 p.m. on Friday, March 27, on LA 1064 near Garafola Lane in the Natalbany area. The sheriff says that a deputy noticed a car cross the center lane several times and tried to conduct a traffic stop. As the car pulled over, Sheriff Edwards says that a black male, later identified as Andrews, fled from the vehicle on foot. As the deputy requested other units in the area, Foster exited the vehicle and deputies located a large amount of cash in his front pockets. Nearby, deputies noticed a black male, covered in mud, coming from behind a residence. Deputies detained the suspect, later identified as Andrews, and during questioning learned that Andrews claimed that Foster threw a bag on his lap and told him to run. Andrews told deputies that he threw a clear, plastic bag containing crack cocaine near a pickup truck. The sheriff says that deputies recovered some 43 grams of crack cocaine and that Foster and Andrews were taken into custody. |
