(HAMMOND)---A Hammond man, apparently on probation on another narcotics charge, has been arrested in connection with a case where deputies allegedly recovered crack cocaine from his vehicle and powder cocaine from his house, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that 46-year-old William Charles Smith has been charged with two counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding. The traffic stop occurred on Tuesday, March 24, on East Yellow Water Road in Hammond. The sheriff says that deputies conducted a traffic stop on Smith's vehicle for speeding along the street. Sheriff Edwards says that a search incidental to the traffic stop led to deputies recovering 15 grams of crack cocaine and some $750 in cash. He adds that a separate search of Smith's residence led to the additional recovery of some 25 grams of powder cocaine. During the course of the investigation, the sheriff says that deputies determined that Smith was already on active probation on an earlier narcotics charge. |
